“乔治，”唐说，“你来继承我的位置。除非绝对有对必要，否则那些有危险的事情，你和文尼就不要再参与了。眼光要往前看。你的孩子、我的孩子、小丹特，还有克罗奇菲西奥，他们不能在这种环境里成长。我们有钱，犯不着为了吃饱饭豁出命去。从今以后，我们家族的角色，就只是其它家族的财政顾问。我们帮他们出谋划策、调停他们的纠纷。但是要做这份儿差事，我们手头要有底牌和得力的人手。而且，我们必须保护每个家族的财产，这样他们才能让我们分享利益。”
他顿了顿，又说道：“二三十年之后，等我们全都藏身于合法世界时，就可以无忧无虑地享受财富了。今天受洗的两个孩子，永远不必替我们赎罪，也不必因为我们而担惊受怕。”
