时光荏苒，岁月如梭。蓦然回首，1998年和2006年我们主编的第1版和第2版《炎症性肠病学》至今已分别16年和8年了。该专著是我国首部和早期的炎症性肠病学专著之一，对我国炎症性肠病的知识传播、临床应用和基础研究，起到十分重要的推动和引领作用。
21世纪是知识更新、爆炸的时代。随着人类基因组学、细菌组学、蛋白质组学、代谢组学、免疫生物学、分子生物学及临床各学科、各专业的发展，炎症性肠病无论在病因基础研究及转化医学，还是在临床诊治规范、预后风险判断及整合医学应用等方面，均取得长足的进步与发展。
