Book Abstract

网络连接设备有很多种，在不同场合使用不同的网络连接设备，在广域网中，网络连接设备与传输线路一起构成通信子网。
常用的网络连接设备有交换机、集线器、路由器、网桥、网关及中继器等。
广域网中使用的交换机的主要功能是完成网络中的信息交换和通信处理。
局域网中的交换机的主要作用是把局域网分成网段、减少流量、避免冲突、增加带宽，以便提高局域网的性能。
集线器的作用是连接计算机和其他设备构成一个局域网，智能型集线器还具有自动容错、网络管理、桥接或路由选择等功能。
路由器的任务是连接不同的网络，进行路由选择，使多个网络互连在一起，实现更大范围内的资源共享。
网桥的主要功能是把局域网分成多个网段，减少冲突，提高局域网的性能。
网关的作用是连接高层协议不同的网络和主机，在高层实现协议转换。
中继器的作用是放大信号，延伸网络的传输距离。
（3）主机和终端设备
主机和终端设备是指连接在网络上的用于存放信息，提供处理和计算能力的计算机系统和用户用来访问网络资源的计算机设备。主机和终端设备是网络通信的源头和终点。在广域网中，这些计算机设备构成资源子网。主机和终端设备主要包括主机和终端。
主机是用户一端连网的计算机，它既要为本地用户提供软件和处理能力，又要为网络上的其他主机和用户共享本机资源提供开放式的网络资源环境。
由于局域网都采用客户／服务器计算模式，局域网上的主机都扮演不同的角色。根据角色的不同，局域网上的主机分为服务器和工作站。
服务器是具有较强计算能力的高档计算机，其主要作用是提供各类共享资源，实现网络管理功能。服务器上安装各种服务软件，可以提供数据库服务、文件服务、打印服务、Web服务、域名服务、电子邮件服务等。
工作站是用户直接使用，与服务器进行通信的计算机。工作站的任务是提供与用户的交互界面，完成用户的本地计算，作为用户与网络的接口向服务器申请共享资源，与服务器协同工作，一起完成复杂的处理与计算工作。
终端是用户与网络的接口，可以通过主机接入网络，也可通过终端控制器接入网络。终端一般没有数据处理和计算能力，其主要作用是向用户提供交互界面，与网络上提供资源的主机通信，接收并且显示主机的处理结果。

全书共分为8章，第1章介绍计算机网络的基础知识和数据通信的基本概念，包括计算机网络概述、网络拓扑结构、数据通信基础知识、广域网技术基础和网络体系结构等内容。第2章主要介绍局域网，在简单描述了局域网的特点、结构、组成之后，着重介绍了应用最广的以太网，同时，也简单介绍了令牌环网、令牌总线、交换式局域网、虚拟局域网、FDDI、客户/服务器模式、结构化布线系统等内容。第3章在介绍了网络互连的基本概念和互连设备后，着重讨论了Internet技术，包括Internet的基本概念、协议体系和基本服务。第4章是网络操作系统，以不太长的篇幅介绍了网络操作系统的基本概念、典型的网络操作系统，并以Windows 2000为例，介绍了一些重要的基本概念和基本操作。第5章是Internet的使用方法，主要涉及Internet的接入方法、IE浏览器的使用、Outlook Express的使用，最后还介绍了文件下载上传的方法和典型软件。第6章涉及的是网页制作技术，在给出了网页的基本概念后，简单讨论了HTML语言，介绍了FrontPage 2003和Flash 8软件的简单使用方法，目的是为读者学习后续课程打下基础。第7章介绍网络管理和网络安全的基本概念，以及Window 2000的安全与管理，并以一个具体的实例介绍了防火墙的概念和设置。第8章简单介绍了Intranet和电子商务的基本概念，为以后进一步学习电子商务课程打下基础。
