Author Description

马利亚什·贝拉，匈牙利当代知名小说家、画家和音乐人，笔名和艺名为“马利亚什医生”。一九六六年十一月三日出生于塞尔维亚的诺维萨德市。一九八七年至一九九一年在贝尔格莱德艺术大学学习音乐，一九八八年组建了曾风靡巴尔干半岛的先锋乐队“学者们”，他担任歌手和小号手。一九九一年为了躲避南斯拉夫内战而逃到匈牙利，之后定居在布达佩斯并加入匈牙利国籍。从二十世纪九十年代开始至今，他一直活跃在匈牙利的乐坛、画坛和文坛，成为知名的多栖文化人。马利亚什的所有作品都带着浓重的“东欧味道”，特别是“巴尔干元素”：沉重，犀利，黑色，现实。

阿敏跟妻子和两个女儿一起住在楼角最旮旯的一套房子里。好几年前，战争的疾风把他们吹到这里，从那之后一直住在这里，仿佛漂到了一座无人岛上。
阿敏是一个高个子、棕皮肤、四十多岁的男人。花白的发绺耷拉在他的眼睛前，穿着优雅，只有在必须说话的时候才会说话。他妻子，头发染成了金色，性情活泼，爱说爱笑，一天到晚都在试衣裳，摆弄发型。
阿敏和娜达各有自己不同的信仰，但是为了能够生活在一起，他们都接受了洗礼，并成为一个小教会团体的成员。从那之后他们就生活在这里，在当地有许多的朋友，大家都喜欢帮助他们，然而他们并不会讲匈牙利语，但他们用自己可怜的英语知识和丰富的手势活得很自在。
他们最好的朋友是小教会组织的创始人之一，在一家购物中心的仓库里工作。他从单位里搞到许多次品的电冰箱、炉灶、电视机和电脑，他把这些东西带回家，存放在庭院里。当积攒到了一定的数量，他会告诉阿敏，把这些东西装上拖车，拉到一个居民小区，拉到某个市场或停车场，以商店价格的半价倒手出售，买卖就这样开始了。
人们看到很多崭新的机器和优惠的价格，于是开始疯狂抢购，把很多机器买回家。当货物全部出手后，阿敏他们转眼消失，再不会回来。假如万一有人过早地发现，这些机器不能运转，都是次品，刚要揭穿他们的把戏，阿敏就会挺身而出，抡圆了巴掌，他想怎么打就怎么打，没有问题，因为他强壮得就像一头公牛。
阿敏很伤心，他只能得到这类工作。但是实际上，他对别的工作根本不感兴趣。他任凭自己的妻子大手大脚地花钱，打扮，一点儿也不在乎女人从不做饭，也不收拾房间，家里到处脏兮兮的，但是只要他招一下手，女人就会立即进到他的房间，仿佛听到了最可怕的指令，一声不响地躺到床上。男人用一块小毯子盖住女人的脸，将她的下身扒光，在她身上蠕动。一旦达到了高潮，男人翻身躺下，静静地休息，女人掀开遮在脸上的小毯子，一声不响地爬起来，穿上丝袜，整理好衣裳，走出卧室。

在这里，在匈牙利，在这个虽然很小、但故事很多的中欧国家，有着一个很怪的习俗：垃圾日。情况大概是这样的，市政府每年都会指定出一天，让当地居民们将所有没用的东西——自己没用、但可能别人有用的东西，或体积太大、无法扔进普通垃圾桶的大件家什——统统从家里、阁楼里、地下室里找出来扔掉。
在这一天，街边堆满了各种各样神秘的旧物，缺胳膊少腿儿的破家具，老掉牙的坏电器，发黄了的老照片，多余的门窗，过期的药物，蒙尘的画作，旧书旧报旧杂志旧衣物旧体育器械，总之，所有的一切，所有曾几何时有人（因为好、有用、好看）需要过、使用过或收藏过、但现在已经时过境迁、成为破烂了的一切，都被扔了出来，说不定别人捡回去能用。不少人一条街接着一条街地巡猎，在陌生人的弃物和过去中竞相翻腾，将一些可能有用、可能卖钱、可能修好的东西找出来运回家；那些剩下来的、确实没用了的破烂则留在街上，第二天早上被垃圾车拉走。
以前我并不住在这里，所以当我知道有这个习俗时，对我来讲特别有趣。我出生在南斯拉夫，那是一个多种宗教、多个民族的国家，后来那里爆发了轰轰烈烈、兄弟相残的内战，我从那里逃走了，为了逃避兵役，为了不杀人；我逃到了匈牙利。
这个对我来说全新的世界，当时也处于动荡、奇怪的状态。俄罗斯军人刚刚撤离，很快就来了美国人和西欧人。当地人对学英语的需求突然剧增，尽管没怎么当过教师，但我的英文很好，加上没有工作，所以我当起了私人教师，一来养活自己，二来了解对我来说新世界的居民。
我在一幢摇摇欲坠的公寓楼里租了一个小房间，很快，知名的律师、疲惫的医生、意气风发的学生、充满幻想的失业者、机灵的商人、出色的厨师、古怪的发明家、疯癫的工程师、自暴自弃的精神病患者、渴望赚钱的骗子和许多形形色色的其他人从早到晚跟我泡在一起聊天，学英语。
自打认识了他们之后.我的心灵很快就变得像一幢公寓楼，许许多多的古怪人物门挨门地住在里面。他们是一个动荡时代的社会角色，这些彼此截然不同的人们不得不住在同一个屋檐下，因为他们既不富得能搬进别墅，也没穷得要流落街头。
