墨金突然在他的烂泥窝里翻了个身，使得周遭浑浊一片，浓浓的泥沙弥漫四处；他脱下来的皮屑像是睡醒后所追忆的梦的碎片一般，与沙土和烂泥一起飘扬。他细长的身体绕成环状，盘旋移动时，表皮便互相摩擦，磨掉了尚未掉落的皮屑。在漂浮的烂泥又沉到水底之后，墨金举目望向正愉快地浸泡在水底烂泥中的那二十几条海蛇。“时间到了。”他以浑厚的嗓音说道，“时间已到。”
泡在海底的众海蛇一起抬头，他们睁着绿色、金色或是黄铜色的大眼睛，一眨也不眨地望着他。丝莉芙代表众海蛇发言：“为什么？这里的海水温暖，又容易觅食，就算再过个百来年，冬天也不会来临。既然有这么多好处，我们何必现在离去？”

丝莉芙突然从瑟苏瑞亚身边的烂泥中跃起，那一身猩红的闪亮新皮非常耀眼，但仍有些褐红色的皮屑掺杂其中。在开口之前，她先弯身将一大块皮屑咬掉，并吞了下去。“如果你质疑墨金所言，那你就去加入奥布兰的蛇团好了。其他蛇我不知道，但我一定会跟着墨金北去。宁可尽快动身，也不要太迟。或许去得早，就不必与其他十几个蛇团争食了。”她轻巧地将盘旋成圈的身体解开，顺便将最后的旧皮屑磨下来。她摇摇自己的触须，扬起头，嘹亮的叫声打乱了水流。“我来了，墨金！我跟你去！”她跃至水中，去追随仍在它们头顶疯狂盘旋的首领。
其他的大海蛇一条接一条地将盘成圈的身体解开，众海蛇——即使是瑟苏瑞亚——皆离开水底，升至“丰境”下的温暖海水中，加入蛇团首领，一起回旋舞动。他们将往北走，回到当年离开，只是如今已过太久，久到谁都不记得的出身之地。
