商人与魔鬼
传说从前有个巨商，资本雄厚，货源广泛，经商范围涉及世界各地。一天，他骑马离开家乡到别的地方去做买卖。正午时分，他感到又热又累，便坐在路旁的一棵大树下休息，并随手从马背上的鞍袋里掏出一把椰枣充饥。吃后，他把枣核随便向前扔去。突然，地面上冒出一个高大的魔鬼，手持明晃晃的利剑，眼中喷射着愤怒的火焰。商人惊恐万状。魔鬼上下打量他一番，大声吼道：
“你应该立即被处死，因为你杀死了我的儿子！”
“我一生中从来没有杀过人，”商人连忙说，“而且我认为，杀人是最残酷的暴行。刚才我只是吃了一把枣，怎么能说我杀了你儿子呢？”
“你扔枣核时，正好我儿子从这里经过，枣核打在他的胸上，他就死了。人间流传着一句公道话，叫‘以眼还眼，以牙还牙’。你既然把我的儿子打死了，我就该处置你。”
“可是我并没有看见他，更不是有意杀害他。”
“但是你该知道你周围有你看不见他们、而他们能看见你的生命，你完全可以将枣核放在你的身边，为什么要用力扔出去？”
商人沉思良久，说：“魔王，刚才你谈到了公道，我希望你对我也公道些。
“我是一个商人，家中有财产，还有妻子儿女，我希望你先放我回家，让我写个遗嘱，把各项事务处理妥当，交代清楚，待到明年这个时候，我再来此地任你处置。”
魔鬼果真相信了商人的话，放他走了。
商人回到家中，忧心如焚。他向亲人讲述了他的遭遇。一家人哭哭啼啼，幸福安宁的生活被这突如其来的灾难打破了。他们想到商人与魔鬼订的约言就悲痛欲绝，因为他们就要失去家庭的顶梁柱——他们最敬爱的人了。
到了约定的那天。一家人聚在一起哭作一团，他们把商人送了一程又一程，始终不肯离去。商人骑着骡子，背着殓衣，一步一回头地来到那棵大树下，悲哀地坐下来，静等魔鬼的出现。
过了一会儿，一个手牵羚羊的老人来到他面前，向他问候一声，然后说：“先生，你在乘凉吗？”
“谁有心思乘凉？天底下哪个人没有一点事做？”商人没好气地说。
“那你坐在这里干什么？”
“在做人人都将要做的事。”
“你好像有些不高兴，可以告诉我吗？或许我能对你有点帮助。”
商人向老人讲述了一切，老人听了非常惊奇，说道：“我不离开你，我要亲眼看一看事态的发展，并尽最大的力量帮助你！”
正当两人谈话的时候，一个手牵两条黑狗的老人向他们走来，问候一声，和他们并排坐下，然后说：“你们为什么坐在这里，这是鬼神经常出没的地方。”
两人把商人的遭遇向他讲述一番，老人深感奇怪，说：“我不走了，我要看看魔鬼把这个可怜的商人到底怎么样？”
过了片刻，又一个老人向他们走来，他手里牵着一匹壮实的骡子。他向他们打过招呼后，问他们为什么坐在这里，众人又把商人的遭遇讲述一遍，于是他也陪他们坐下，等候魔鬼的到来。
周围一片寂静，四人沉思不语。突然，旷野里卷起一阵狂风，裹着漫天的尘沙向他们袭来。瞬息间，尘沙散去，一个手持长刀、身躯高大的魔鬼出现在他们面前。他一把抓住商人说：
“我是怎样地等待着这一天啊！起来！我要用这把刀把你的头砍掉，为我的儿子报仇！”
三个老人一齐站起来阻拦，其中手牵羚羊的老人走上前，吻了魔鬼的手说：“伟大的魔王，倘若我给你讲个离奇古怪的故事，你能够将他的罪过免去三分之一吗？”
这位魔鬼生性酷爱打探奇闻轶事，这时他听说老人要给他讲一个离奇古怪的故事，即刻坐下来催促快讲，并答应，如果故事确实离奇，将免去商人罪过的三分之一。
“你见到的这只羚羊，”老人讲道，“本是我叔叔的女儿，也是我的妻子。我们曾真诚相爱。当她还是少女的时候，我便娶她做了妻子，婚后我们一起生活了三十年，但没有子女。后来我在外乡遇到一个美丽、善良、温柔的使女，便把她买回家，收为小妾。一年后，她生下一个漂亮的男孩，我们认真地教育、抚养他，希望他成长为一个聪明健壮的少年。我把孩子看成是未来的希望和我生命的延续，多年来我一直没有离开过他，一心想把他培养成有用的人。到了他十五岁时，我才决定到外地去经商。我带着货物依依不舍地离开了家。
“可是，我叔叔的女儿——她通晓占卜和魔法，却趁我不在，将我的儿子变成了一头小牛，将他的母亲变成了一头母牛，并把他们交给牧人去放牧。牧人一点也不知道其中的真情。当我过了一段时间返回家中时，迟迟不见儿子和小妾前来问候，便向妻子打听他们的下落。她说：“你的小妾死了，你的儿子经受不住与他母亲的诀别，在悲痛之中出走，就再也没有回来，我现在也不知道他的去向。”我没有怀疑这一消息，只是感到生活无比残酷。现在家庭对我来说已经失去温暖，留下的只是冷漠和孤寂。
“宰牲节到来，我命牧人去牧场给我挑选一头母牛，我要亲手把它杀掉，一是为了祭天，二是准备把它的肉分给贫苦无告的穷人。牧人给我拉来一头壮实的母牛，原来它就是我那中了魔法的小妾。当我走近它，举刀要杀时，它却发出我从未听过的悲切叫声。我不忍下手，便命牧人代我执刀。但是，剥开它的皮之后，我却发现，除了骨头，里面什么都没有。我很后悔，当即又命拉来一头肥壮的小牛，它就是我那中了魔法的儿子。它一见我，便泪如泉涌，趴在我面前，用乞求的目光望着我。我动了恻隐之心，命牧人把它放回牧场。可是我的妻子却在一旁说：“这是最好的一头牛了，你还是杀了它奉献给真主吧！”她的话没有引起我丝毫怀疑，但小牛哀怜的目光和凄切的哞叫声却使我彻夜未眠。
次日早晨，我仍未忘掉昨日的情景，这时，牧人跑到我面前，说：“老爷，我给您带来个好消息！”
“什么好消息？对我来说，只有能消除我内心痛苦的消息才是好消息！”
牧人接着说：“我有一个女儿，幼年时跟她外婆学过法术。昨日我把那头小牛牵回牧场，她见了赶紧捂住脸，先是痛哭，后是大笑，”还说：“爸爸，你太不尊重我的人格了，竟把一个陌生男人领到家里来！”我说：“哪有什么男人？”“你手里牵的便是。”“这怎么可能呢？”我大叫说。“你牵的这头牛犊，原是我们主人的儿子。他的大娘用魔法将他变成了小牛，将他的母亲变成了母牛，刚才我就是为了这个发笑。至于我伤心痛哭，那是因为他那可怜的母亲已在宰牲节那天被你们杀掉了。”我听后又惊又喜，所以一大早便来向您报告少爷还活着的消息。
“我再也不能忍耐，飞快地跟随牧人向他家跑去。为了证实这个消息，我再次询问牧人的女儿。她肯定说小牛就是我的儿子，还说她可以使他恢复人形。我异常高兴地说：“姑娘，如果你救了他，我就把你父亲管理下的整个牧场送给你。”她笑笑说：“我什么也不要，只恳求您把我许配给您儿子，并同意我将您叔叔的女儿变为羚羊，免得她再去害人。”
“好吧，”我说，“我太感谢你了。”
“牧人的女儿端来一杯水，念了几句咒语，然后把水洒在小牛身上，边洒边说：“你若生来是小牛就不必变化，如你是中了魔法的人，那么凭着安拉的许可，你即刻恢复原形吧！”话音刚落，小牛就变成了人形，和当初一模一样。我把儿子搂在怀里，让他坐在我的身旁。他向我讲述了我走后家里发生的事情，以及他和母亲的不幸，禁不住又掉下了眼泪。事后，我把牧人的女儿娶为儿媳，她把我的妻子变成了羚羊——就是你现在见到的这只。我们用这样的方法制止了她的邪恶。但她毕竟是我的妻子，我对她不免有恻隐之心，所以出来进去都随身带着她，并准备这样直到她死去。这就是我和羚羊的故事。魔爷，我想你会觉得离奇吧？”
