不管是斷句斷在不對的地方或是一下子快速地講完都很奇怪，較自然的說話方式是「在台灣，交通很擁擠」，利用停頓的時間給對方和自己思考的時間，同樣地，英文也是，我們需要用「訊息包裹」一一傳遞給聽的人，那什麼是「訊息包裹」？舉例來說

In Taiwan, the traffic is heavy.（在台灣，交通很擁擠。）

你覺得這個句子有幾個詞組呢？答案是「In Taiwan」和「the traffic is heavy」兩個部分，如果分成「In」、「Taiwan the traffic is」、「heavy」這樣的話在文法和語意上都不完整，所以不能稱為詞組。能把句子切割後，不但說話方式會更貼近英語人士，在面對一大串句子的時候，也能更快理解。因此我們在學英文句子的時候，也不應該一個單字一個單字的記憶，或是整句記憶，而是一個詞組、一個詞組的記憶，因為詞組跟詞組之間很容易拆開、直接重組成新的句子以應付不同的使用情況，這樣就比「翻譯單字→用文法組織翻譯後的單字→說出句子」的步驟還要更快、更直覺！
