Author Description

格非，中国当代实力派作家，清华大学教授。1964年生于江苏丹徒；1981年考入华东师范大学中文系，毕业后留校任教；2000年获文学博士学位，并于同年转入清华大学中文系任教。从1987年发表成名作《迷舟》开始，迄今已创作出版长篇小说Ⅸ敌人》、《边缘》、《欲望的旗帜》以及“江南三部曲”《人面桃花》、《山河入梦》和“春尽江南》；中短篇小说集《迷舟》、《唿哨》、《雨季的感觉》、《青黄》、《戒指花》等。另有论著和散文随笔“小说艺术面面观》、《小说叙事研究》、《格非散文》、《塞壬的歌声》、《文学的邀约》等多部。格非属于擅长对文学、社会、历史等问题做深入思考的学者型作家。他的作品具有坚韧、优雅、准确、睿智等特质，在中国当代文坛独树一帜、风格鲜明；曾获得“2004年度华语文学传媒大奖杰出成就奖”、“2004年度长篇小说排行榜”第一名、“第二届21世纪鼎钧双年文学奖”、“第三届中国图书势力榜”文学第一名、《新京报》“2011年度文学类致敬图书”等多种文学奖项。其作品被翻译成英、法、意、日等多种文字在国外出版。

Book Abstract

1秋末的一天。曾山在睡梦中被突然响起的电话铃声惊醒。他抓起电话，对方却已经挂断了。
时间已过了午夜两点。在这个时候，谁还会打电话来呢?屋外下着大雨，透过阳台的玻璃窗，他听见密密麻麻的雨点打在树枝上，落在花丛、遮阳布以及门房的屋顶上。一辆救护车冲开淤积的泥水，从楼下呼啸而过。在更远一点的什么地方，像是有几个人在雨中争吵，只是声音听上去不很真切。
作为哲学系副教授，曾山早就养成了凡事追根寻底的习惯。他知道这一习惯并非为学术研究所必需，而仅仅是智力活动遇到阻碍的明显征兆。那么，电话究竟是谁打来的呢?他记得，从铃声响起到他拿起话筒这段时间的间隔并不太长，也就是说，对方很可能只是一时冲动，想通过电话聊聊天，临时又变了卦，因为时间毕竟已经太晚了。这样的情形是不难想象的，在他自己身上就常常发生这样的事。当然，不能排除电话线被大风刮断的可能，但曾山显然不太愿意作这样的假设。
还有另外一种情况。电话的突然中断预示着对方遭到了暴力的胁迫。屋外的狂风大雨使这样的联想获得了一定的合理性：歹徒跳窗而人，女主人电话呼救……这样的情形原先较多出现于好莱坞式的凶杀片中，但在目前的中国，类似的案例倒也并不罕见。
在知道他电话号码的几个人中，他第一个想起来的就是他读博士时的导师贾兰坡教授。身为这次学术会议的执行主席，为了应付繁冗的会务琐事，贾教授嘱咐他的几位弟子随时听候差遣。一周之前，曾山与导师之间发生了一件不愉快的事。当时，曾山将他精心准备的一篇题为《阴暗时代的哲学问题》的论文交给了大会筹备组，打算在会议上宣读。贾兰坡教授在读完这篇文章后，建议他“暂时不要将它公之于众”。师生二人为此发生了剧烈的争吵。曾山一怒之下便出言不逊，并声称他将不会参加这次会议。他的导师一时语塞，气得浑身上下直打哆嗦。“你以为你是个什么东西……”他从牙缝中挤出这样一句话来。至此，师徒二人原来小心翼翼维持着的微妙关系终于难以收拾。
昨天晚上，预备会议在图书馆二楼的报告厅如期举行。曾山没有接到任何通知，只得早早在床上躺下。虽然此前并无迹象表明那个顽固的斯宾诺莎的信徒会放弃自己的立场，曾山依然在暗暗盼望着导师通知他开会的电话。想到这里，他的心头掠过一阵从未有过的阒寂之感。
接下来，他想起了他的师兄宋子衿博士。近些年来，他几乎已中断了他的哲学研究，将兴趣转向小说写作，并渐渐地拥有了一批读者。与曾山相比，宋子衿与导师贾兰坡之间的关系则要亲近得多。
这种亲近之感并非源于学术上的一致见解，而是他们各自躯体中流淌的血液有一种不可思议的亲和力。他的论文作为本次大会的中心论题之一，已被列入议程，因此，他理所当然地出席了昨晚的预备会。

Introduction

变与不变《江南三部曲》问世之后，上海文艺出版社的编辑和我商量，计划将我以前的作品也重新编辑出版，包括三部长篇小说《敌人》、《边缘》、《欲望的旗帜》和全部中短篇小说。除了《戒指花》、《不过是垃圾》、《蒙娜丽莎的微笑》等作品写于2000年之后，这些作品中的绝大部分都是上个世纪的旧作。编订、翻阅这些旧作，虽说敝帚自珍，但多少有点陌生感了，也时时惊异于自己写作在几十年间的变化。
以前常有一种看法，以为作家的变与不变，主要是源于时代本身的急剧变化。列夫·托尔斯泰，詹姆斯·乔伊斯，威廉·福克纳，纳博科夫等等，都是如此。即以乔伊斯而论，若拿《都柏林人》跟《尤利西斯》比较一下，似乎有点让人不敢相信这两部作品出于同一个人之手。乔伊斯生活在风云变幻的世纪之交，对于时代的变革十分敏感，加之他本人也有强烈的革新小说技法的主观动机，这种变化，我们很容易理解。顺便说一句，就算没有后期的《尤利西斯》等现代主义作品，乔伊斯也是世界一流作家。他的《都柏林人》在文学史上也形成了一个小传统。美国当代年轻作家耶茨所继承的，正是这个传统。至于纳博科夫，他一生辗转于俄国的圣彼得堡和德国、法国、美国之间，生活动荡不宁，需时时适应新的地理和文化环境，小说风格不断出现变化也在情理之中。但也有不怎么爱变的作家。卡夫卡、霍桑、海明威等作家相对稳定，写作风格没有出现过剧烈的变化和调整。海明威是一个特例，尽管他的人生经历也很复杂，但一生只写一个主题，居然也写成了世界级的大师。雷蒙德·卡佛是海明威的追随者，和我们生活于同一个时代，也不怎么爱变。
说到中国现代作家，鲁迅就可以算得上文风不断变化的代表。
从《怀旧》这样的文言小说，到《狂人日记》，再到《呐喊·彷徨》和《野草》，一直在变。若不是去世较早，他往后的小说会有什么变化，今天已不好妄加猜测了。汪曾祺的例子也比较特别。我们所熟悉的汪曾祺，是写出过《受戒》、《大淖记事》、《故里三陈》以及大量优美小品的那位作家。可汪先生写作《受戒》的那一年，他已经是60岁了。每念及此，总要无来由地为他老人家捏把汗：假如他活得与鲁迅先生一样长，也许《沙家浜》就要算他的代表作了。在中国现代作家中，也有不那么爱变的入。张爱玲可以算一个，在不变方面，完全可以和海明威相媲美。看她的《小团圆》，不用说语言和基本修辞方法，就连题材、情感、观念也都没有什么变化。
有时候会对古典作家心生羡慕。变与不变，似乎是职业写作出现以来才会有的苦恼。对于那些一生只写一部作品的小说家（比如曹雪芹）而言，想变都没有机会，倒也踏实。安心于茅庐高卧，省了多少六出祁山的左冲右突!但转念一想，也不尽然。古代作家写作的大宗不是小说，而是文章和诗词，其实变化也是始终存在吧，否则就不会有“庾信文章老更成”这样著名的感慨了。
