麦琪的礼物

公寓前有两扇窗子，在它们中间立着一面壁镜，读者或许也是见过这种廉价房子里的壁镜的。窗子前，一个身形苗条的人站在那儿，德拉大概对自己的容貌也颇有几分自信。突然，她转过身来，站到镜子前，镜子照出她那明亮晶莹的眼睛，但她的脸色却迅速黯淡下来。她突然解开扎着的头发，让它们披散下来。
詹姆斯 ? 迪林汉 ? 扬夫妇有两件宝贝，一个是吉姆家传的金表，另一个便是德拉这一头美丽的秀发了。如果所罗门王把自己的财富都放在地下室里，做了公寓看门人，吉姆每次见他时，也一定会拿出自己的金表看看，让所罗门王嫉妒发狂。如果他们的邻居是示巴女王的话，德拉也一定会为了炫耀自己的头发比女王的珠宝更加璀璨，而在某天将自己的头发晾到窗外去。
这会儿，德拉将头发放下，长长的头发越过腰际，竟已及膝，闪耀着光芒，就好似一小股褐色的瀑布，又仿佛是披在她身上的一件衣裳。看着看着，她突然又把头发扎好。如果旁边有人，一定以为她是疯子。她静静地站了一会儿，有些犹豫。没有预兆地，几滴泪水晕开在破旧的红色地毯上。
