Content Description

《人文读与收藏·良友文学丛书：残碑》为良友文学丛书第二十一种。讲述了上世纪二十年代北伐战争背景下，一群努力冲破封建枷锁，向往革命、参与革命的进步青年的故事。文中真实反映了那个时代沉闷压抑的社会现状。主人公孙丘立等代表的进步力量，其叔父代表的落后保守派，田焕章代表的工人阶级的觉醒人群以及王金华代表的社会渣滓等，他们的斗争使城市变为一个大熔炉，在斗争、挣扎中又暗含希望。而围绕主人公蓉姊的恋爱故事，一些列内心活动细致的描绘，也同样具有典型的时代性。

Author Description

沈起予（1903-1970），重庆巴县人。作家，文学翻译家。毕业于日本京都帝国大学。1927年回国，在上海参加创造社、抗敌协会，1930年参加左联，后历任《光明》半月刊主编，《新蜀报》、《新民晚报》副刊编辑，上海群益出版社主任编辑，中国作协第一届理事。著有小说《残碑》、《飞露》，短篇小说集《火线内》、《人性的恢复》等，译著《欧洲文学发展史》、《艺术哲学》，小说《我们七个人》、《洒场》等。

Book Abstract

凤台旅馆的隔壁，是一家海产货物的堆栈，孙丘立的一间狭窄的房间，特别地紧接着这堆栈的门口。所以他转到房间后还不曾睡上几时，便又被堆栈前的一阵杠担声，落货声，以及一些与重荷挣扎的从胸肺中进出来的嘶叫声，与劳动者所特有的互相咒骂的粗暴声所惊醒了。
一时茶房提了一壶开水进来，即向他说：
“孙先生，你家昨晚起夜的时候，在厨房那面，见着有猫子的形迹没有呀？”
突被这样一间，孙丘立便觉得脸上有些发红；但他还不会回答时，田焕章又继续说道：
“不知是那家的猫子，真厉害；从前两晚起就来偷我们的‘番菜’吃，昨晚连我们特别盖上的木板也都弄翻了。伙计们以为是在夜里有人起来偷去私卖，现在都在那边闹。但是昨晚是我守夜，那里有人起来偷呢！”
孙丘立不知这话是在为他辩护，抑是由于真的不知道；可是他的发跳的胸窝，却随着这一段话而暂时安定下去了。于是他带着无事的口吻说：
“猫于我倒不曾见过；不过我知道你们开的饭，都是客人们吃剩了的东西，还有什磨番菜给猫子偷呢？”
“是的呢，你家。但是你不见我们吃了过后，再剩得有鱼刺，肉骨头，油煎菜等时，我们都要拿来合并在一起的么？就是因为要这样一碗一碗的翻并起来的原故，所以伙计们都叫它‘番菜’。据说别的地方还有称它为‘龙虎斗’的呢。”
孙丘立也滑稽地笑了。他乘兴又故意说道：“那末，就给猫子偷一点又何妨呢。总不外是肚子饿才去偷呀！”
可是他即刻见着田茶房不惟无他那样滑稽的语调，而且更板起劲来说了：
“孙先生，你那能知道。一般有钱人们见着菜不合口胃时，就要骂厨房，打下人；殊不知他们吃剩了的菜，那些穷光蛋们却不能任意地吃个饱呢。你猜！你隔壁的那些力夫们，整天被那些外国运来的货包子压得精疲力尽之后，吃了些什么！……”
孙丘立暂时把耳朵侧了过去，果然那整天不断的，用杵杠拍着节奏的“嗐哟！嗐哟！嗐！嗐！”的苦力们的急迫而呻吟的喊声，又重新鼓进他的耳朵来了。但茶房即刻又把话继续下去：
“你以为那些残羹剩菜不值钱么？把它拿到前花楼或河街去加上几桶水，再用点干柴烧涨，你看那些力夫们都拚命地化费两个铜板来抢！”
这样谈呀谈的，孙丘立才知道他昨夜所偷吃的残羹，竟是劳动者们所贪的“番菜”；而且茶房们的贩卖这样的“番菜”，竟是一笔很大的外水。不过事情的逼迫，并不曾使他有推想这些仔细的余褡，因为田茶房把话题一转，这回的确是关乎他自身的事了：
“孙先生，我看你还是早些设法到南京去好了。你的病虽然还待调养一会，但我想你在这里只有把病拖延下去的。”
“是的，路费一到我就起程，这里的伙食，我也忍耐不下了。”
“伙食么！现在连拿点开水，账房都要说闲话了！”
“啊？我的栈房钱才一个礼拜未付，账房就可恶到这样么？”
“唵！这种地方，认得的只是钱；有钱的来栈，就称呼得大人上大人下的，对无饯的人，他们就什么事也做得出来！”
田茶房的话刚到到这里，只听见“你把那~~~”的京调声音，拍和着一双拖鞋的踏响，另一个茶房弹着指头，摇摆地走进来了。半新旧的棉袍斜挂在肩上，都市流痞的特征，十足地表现在脸上。这人名叫王金华。
王金华虽然是在这旅馆中当茶房，但他却有不明不白的一手，使旅馆的账房也不敢得罪他——与其说是不敢得罪，宁说还要利用他。譬如旅馆中栈下了缺少事故的学生，或初次出门的旅客之类的人，偶一粗心时他便会使你的银钱或重要行李损失一点数目，但如有阔绰而势大的客人们偶然失掉了什么东西时，他却也有即刻去清察回来的本事。譬如与孙丘立一同来这里的朱大人，有一次从娼妓桂红的房中转来见着自己的手提皮包失了踪时，他即去追问账房，账房便即刻去托附王金华，王金华于三小时内便去把替他捉拿回来了。他为何有这样的路数，一般人都不知道；大家对他的这种本领的怀疑，往往被他是什么‘帮’的小首领一句话解释了。
“喂，是你在这里么；昨晚上好不快活呀！她妈的，还是个初出茅庐的家伙！哈哈哈…”
王金华走进这窄小的房中，一见着田焕章也在这里，便放着粗糙的喉音这样连说带笑起来。
“从来独安里的窑子我没有遇过一个好的；你看那龟蛋们满脸的胭脂，满身的绸缎，但只要你上床去把她的上下衣服一脱，她妈的，才不是脚下的疳疮，就是腰间的梅毒！一身都是烂肉！唵，老田，昨晚那只乡下猫真舒服，年纪又小，肉又好，又——”
“哟，你开心了！”
