Author Description

D.H.劳伦斯（David Herbert Lawrence，1885－1930），英国作家。出生于矿工家庭，中学毕业后，做过职员，教过书，后进入诺丁汉大学学院接受师范专科训练。他的第一部小说《白孔雀》于一九一一年发表。《儿子与情人》是他早期作品中最有影响的一部，具有自传性质。一九一二年，劳伦斯与诺丁汉大学一位教授的夫人弗里达私奔到意大利，两年后与她结婚。婚后，劳伦斯夫妇曾住在英国，但是在第一次世界大战期间，弗里达的德国出身和劳伦斯的反战情绪使他们与英国当局的关系十分紧张，因此不得不回到意大利。在此期间，劳伦斯创作了他最为成功的两部小说——《虹》和《恋爱中的女人》。一九一九年以后，由于健康原因，劳伦斯一直在旅行，到过锡兰、澳大利亚、墨西哥和欧洲大陆的一些国家，并以这些地方为背景，创作了《袋鼠》和《羽蛇》等作品。一九二六年以后，他大部分时间住在意大利，在这里写成了他最有争议性的小说《查泰莱夫人的情人》。一九三〇年三月，劳伦斯因为肺结核在法国东南部的旺斯镇去世。除了长篇小说外，劳伦斯在短篇小说创作方面也取得了很大的成就，此外还写了大量诗歌、评论、杂文等，是一位具有多方面才能的作家。

秋天，鹌鹑呼啦啦飞起，鸟群浪花般地飞掠过休闲的土地，白嘴鸦出现在水雾弥漫的灰蒙蒙的天空，“呱呱”叫着人冬。这时男人们坐在屋里的火炉边，女人们里里外外井井有条地张罗着。这些男人的身心都被过去的日子、牛群、土地、草木和天空占据，这会儿往火炉边上一坐，头脑都变迟钝了。过去生机勃勃的日子里所积累下的一切令血液都流得悠缓了。
