《曾经沧海难为水 除却巫山不是云 薛涛传》：
“好！” 六名女子模仿孔雀翩翩起舞，她们仿效孔雀飞出窝巢、灵敏视探、安然漫步、寻水、饮水、戏水、洗澡、抖翅、晒翅、展翅、与万物比美等，舞姿优美动作细腻，配上鼓、镲来伴奏，真是尽善尽美。大家喝彩连连，可笼中的孔雀对此却视而不见，焦灼地在笼中走来走去。曲终之后，孔雀站在那里茫然地看着众人。
孔雀女舞毕退出。
此时，司仪朗声说： “韦大人为助大家雅兴，特请了蜀中小才女薛洪度，为大家抚琴献舞，吟诗作画。有请薛洪度！” 话音刚落，从屏风一侧走出一位女孩。只见她十五六岁年纪，乌黑的发髻盘在脑后，衬着一张面如凝脂的瓜子脸，弯弯的柳眉下，一双清澈的丹凤眼忽闪忽闪的，挺直的鼻梁，一张红润的樱桃小嘴微带笑意，婀娜的身材裹着一袭红衣，步态轻盈地走了出来。
她径直走向离孔雀笼不远处的古琴前，先朝厅内的众人行了礼，又朝身后一位年长的乐师行礼，那乐师正襟端坐，双眼紧闭，面无表情。
一道音符划破长空，琴声如流水般荡漾开来，似有春风掠过，又似在蓝天白云下百花盛开，百草生长。笼内的孔雀抬起了头，惬意地在笼中漫步。忽然琴声像群马疾驰山道，耳边的风呼呼作响，不一会又似在广袤的沙漠，兵刃相见，战马嘶鸣，激烈处突然帛裂弦断，一片寂静。大厅鸦雀无声，片刻之后，只听孔雀声如洪钟带有颤音在呜叫，众人回过神来，鼓掌直呼好曲好曲，此曲只应天上有……大厅小声喧哗，皆在赞叹刚才的演奏。
喝酒喝酒，众人互劝中又端起酒盅。舒缓的乐曲响起，只见那女子舞着两根白绸上场了，渐渐地舞动的白绸竞成了一朵炫目的白花，红红的花蕊是那样醒目。这朵花在乐声中时而含苞欲放，时而娇艳盛开，众人拿着酒盅的手忘记了放下。身后的孔雀忽然抖动着翅膀，激动地将尾屏高举展开，支撑在翘起的尾羽上，形如大扇，左右摇摆，眼状斑的羽毛灿烂闪烁。
有人喊： “孔雀开屏了！孔雀开屏了！”此时一幅美丽的画面展现在大家眼前：一朵鲜艳纯洁含苞欲放的花朵在春风轻拂下微微颤动，一只锦缎般美丽而珍奇无比的孔雀在这朵花的映衬下开屏。
掌声再次响起来。
一曲舞毕，那女子白净的脸上透出胭脂红。韦皋起身，说道：“洪度，过来，我给大家做个介绍。”还没等到那女子走到桌前，韦皋走上前，牵着她的手似在给蜀中名人将士更是给那些使者做介绍： “蜀中小才女薛涛，字洪度，年方十五，生于长安。幼时因父来蜀中任职，随父人蜀，知音律，擅诗词。来，洪度，满上一盅，敬各位来宾。” 薛涛满上酒，敬各位来宾。
众人也回敬薛涛，薛涛再敬韦皋。
白蛮使者来到韦皋桌前，双手将盅举过头顶说：“韦大人，大唐洪福齐天，国泰民安，本部所敬献孔雀，旨在修好，和睦往来。今天孔雀开屏，是天意，也是我们修好的开端，今后还仰仗大唐对我部落提携。”说完一饮而尽。转身又敬薛涛：“小才女，敬你一盅，为孔雀第一次开屏。小才女知音律，擅舞蹈，蓝孔雀看来与你有缘。好，我干了。”使者兴奋地一饮而尽。薛涛端起酒盅，碰了碰嘴唇，一并谢了。 看到白蛮使者抢了先，乌蛮使者有点不高兴，悻悻地端着酒盅，脸上挤出一丝笑意走向韦皋：“韦大人，大唐国盛民安，主帅更是德才兼备，我敬您。”转身对薛涛说：“大唐人才济济，区区一小女子就才华横溢，更不用说七尺男儿了，敬佩！敬佩！”说完也一饮而尽。接着似在对薛涛说，又似是自语： “听说小才女诗文作得好，何不让我们今天一饱眼福耳福？” 众人一听，忙附和说：“是呀是呀，有酒就有诗。” “韦大人，久闻洪度诗名，听说小小年纪诗文作得好，今天让我们长长见识。” 刘辟附在韦皋耳边私语：“大人，何不就此机会来个赛诗会，发现人才提拔人才？” 韦皋捋着胡须，默许点头。
刘辟忙宣布：“各位，今天节度府借此良辰美景，让各位英雄好汉文人雅士一展才华，韦大人乃一代儒将，诗的题目由韦大人出，并亲自评判裁出高低胜负，各位请准备！” 司仪高声宣布：“赛诗会开始！” 韦皋不是进士出身，当年却因祖荫人仕，初为建陵挽郎，后又任他职。这些年饱读诗书，闲暇之余也写诗，虽然诗文作得不是很出色，但诗文的鉴赏水平相当不错。此次从京城来益州任职，也带来一批文人学士。他早听说蜀中多才子，何况岳父在此镇蜀数年，敬重人才，蜀中的文风日渐盛起。今天借此机会他既想让他带来的幕僚和蜀中才子们好好交流，也想对京城和蜀中才子们的才华做个比较。
一听说赛诗会，宾客们议论纷纷，兴奋异常，都想借此机会展露自己的才华。
那些跟随韦皋来的京城学士颇为自负，为博取功名苦读数年，作诗已不在话下。
蜀中的才子们更是信心百倍，或许这次机会能改变他们的命运，若是能得到节度使的青睐，说不定就有了提拔重用的机会。 刘辟更想让儿子在这次赛诗会上崭露头角，以便节度使韦皋对儿子另眼相看。虽然儿子刘叔方目前只任一小官职，但他想让儿子有更大的发展。为让儿子将来成才，这些年刘辟对儿子的要求颇为严格，并为他请了几位先生授教。无奈刘叔方心不在此，无法体谅其父的苦心，他只对好酒美女感兴趣。为了应付父亲的检查，刘叔方将老师写的一些诗文熟记于心，竟也能应付父亲。这次赛诗会刘叔方心存侥幸，说不定能碰到他已经背熟的诗。刚才看到薛涛的美貌他早就失魂落魄，恨不得在诗文赛中夺魁以博得美人的欢心。
