Author Description

林徽因（1918-2001），中国文坛享有盛誉的女作家。台湾苗栗人，生于日本，长在北京，29岁时举家迁回台湾。在终其一生的文学事业中，林海音写下了许多传世佳作，被誉为台湾文学的“祖母级人物”。她的作品被译成各种文字，荣获多项世界级文学奖项。1998年“第三届世界华人作家大会”林海音荣获“终身成就奖”。
《城南旧事》是林海音最受读者欢迎的作品，曾被《亚洲周刊》评选为“二十世纪中文小说一百强”：被列入中国大陆中小学生必读书目.教育部《全日制义务教育语文课程标准》推荐书目。同名电影荣获：中国电影金鸡奖，菲律宾马尼拉国际电影节金鹰奖，厄瓜多尔基多城国际电影节赤道奖，南斯拉夫贝尔格莱德国际儿童电影节思想奖。

“没关系，我把手表送给小桂子，她有了表就有一定时候回家了。”可是，——这时我倒想起妈会派宋妈来找我，便又说：“我也要回家了。‘
秀贞听我说要走，她也不发愣了，一面随着我下了炕，一面说：“那敢情好，先谢谢你啦！看见小桂子叫她回来，外面冷，就说我不骂她，不用怕。”
我点了点头，答应她，真像有那么一个小桂子，我认识的。
我一边走着一边想，跟秀贞这样玩，真有意思；假装有一个小桂子，还给小桂子做衣服。为什么人家都不许他们的小孩子跟秀贞玩呢？还管她叫疯子？我想着就回头去看，原来秀贞还倚着墙看我呢！我一高兴就连跑带跳地回家来。
宋妈正在跟一个老婆子换洋火，房檐底下堆着字纸篓、旧皮鞋、空瓶子。
我进了屋子就到小床前的柜里找出手表来。小小圆圆的金表，镶着几粒亮亮的钻石，上面的针已经不能走动了，妈妈说要修理，可一直放着，我很喜欢这手表，常常戴在手上玩，就归了我了。我正站在三屉桌前玩弄着，忽然听见窗外宋妈正和老婆子在说什么，我仔细听，宋妈说：
“后来呢？”
“后来呀，”换洋火的老婆子说，“那学生一去到如今就没回来！临走的时候许下的，回他老家卖田卖地，过一个月就回来明媒正娶她。好嘛！这一等就是六年啦！多俊的姑娘，我眼瞧着她疯的。……”
“说是怎么着？还生了个孩子？”
“是呀！那学生走的时候，姑娘她妈还不知道姑娘有了，等到现形了，这才赶着送回海甸义地去生的。”
“义地？”
“就是他们惠安义地，惠安人在北京死了就埋在他们惠安义地里。原来王家是给义地看坟的，打姑娘的爷爷就看起，后来又让姑娘她爹来这儿当长班，谁知道出了这么档子事儿。”
“他们这家子倒是跟惠难有缘，惠难离咱们这儿多远哪？怎么就一去不回头了呢？”
“可远喽！”
“那么生下来的孩子呢？”
“孩子呀，一落地就裹包裹包，趁着天没亮，送到齐化门城根底下啦！反正不是让野狗吃了，就是让人捡去了呗！”
“姑娘打这儿就疯啦？”
“可不，打这儿就疯了！可怜她爹妈，这辈子就生下这么个姑娘。唉！”
两个人说到这儿都不言语了，我这时已经站到屋门口倾听。宋妈正数着几包红头洋火，老婆子把破烂纸往她的大筐里塞呀塞呀！鼻子里吸溜着清鼻涕。宋妈又说：
“下回给带点刨花来。那——你跟疯子她们是一地儿的人呀？”
“老亲喽！我大妈娘家二舅屋里的三姐算是疯子她二妈，现在还在看坟，他们说的还有错儿吗？”
宋妈一眼看见了我，说：
“又听事儿，你。”
“我知道你们说谁。”我说。
