Book Abstract

一面空镜子是这起相思事件的诱因。
在乡下，晨起的少女将镜子搁在屋外的窗台上，就着清澈如水的晨光梳理头发，这本是常见的事。但是，这天早上，这面未能及时收回的镜子却意外邂逅了一只鸟儿。它偶然歇落在那里，正用尖尖的喙整理颈下的羽毛，无意间一个眼风，似乎瞟见什么，于是向身后郑重凝视一眼，就这一眼，立时被击中似的呆怔在镜子前面。
所谓一见钟情不过就是如此吧，一眼初见，看见的却是依稀熟识的人。这只在乡下并不罕见的鸟儿，灰顶、黑背、橘尾，体型大小跟麻雀相似，又比麻雀生得娇俏动人些，乡下人按照一搭眼儿留下的印象，信口唤它“火脸斑儿”。这名不正言不顺的名儿，在这个叫马崖坳的小乡村里，竞就这样叫着一代代传将下来了。这只火脸斑儿刚成年，还没寻到合意的伴儿，像个浪荡公子一样在乡野里飞飞停停，可就这偶然间一站，无意间一眼，竞断了它继续浪荡下去的心思，决意在这里栖身下来了。
它发现，面前的这只火脸斑儿，跟自己不但相似，而且天然的情投意合：它微微颔首，它也轻巧地点头；它扭转羽毛蓬松的颈子，它也矜持端庄地侧首；后来它动了点儿歪心思，试探着去调笑面前的火脸斑儿，尖了嫩喙，对准了轻轻一啄，不想对面的它跟自己如出一辙，于是两只鸟儿叮的一声，喙对喙，啄在一起。镜子外的火脸斑儿既惊且喜，没想到意中鸟儿竟这般知心知意，立时兴奋起来，前仰后合着啁啾几声，收成一束的尾巴花洒开来，扑棱一声张翅扑飞一下，又急急收拢，骨碌着黑豆样的眼去查看镜里鸟儿的动静。它看见镜里的它竟跟自己是一般样的欣喜，都是不知道掩饰的、有些莽撞呆笨的示爱……它微微感动着，安静下来，凝视着立在对面的火脸斑儿，尖了喙，啄一下，再啄一下，一下比一下凝重，一下比一下深情。
当立在镜子前面的火脸斑儿无可救药地恋上镜子里的自己的时候，我坐在核桃树下的藤椅上，好笑，惊诧，又隐隐的心痛。火脸斑儿耐心地向镜子里的意中人示爱，喉咙里发出焦急又动人的颤音，一次次扑棱起来撞向镜子，祈望可以触到对方柔软的身体。它发现，自己跟对面的火脸斑儿都在做同样的努力，都在经受同样的失败。它扭动着灵活的颈子，盯着对方迟疑许久，又上下打量窗棂，它突然悟到什么，按照它有生以来与人类打交道的经验，似乎只有一种可能——爱人被人类禁锢了。
它很快飞将起来，在屋前上下查看一番，迅速从门里飞进去，在房间里上下冲撞，叫声急躁而忧伤。它很快发现了放在柜子上的另一面镜子，同时，也发现了镜子里羽毛有些蓬乱的火脸斑儿。它激动起来，再次扑棱飞起冲撞上去…..
我不得不将屋里的火脸斑儿驱赶出去，又不得不将放在窗台外面的镜子收掉。
但是，我已经无法隔断它的相思，它很执拗，盘桓在屋顶不去，一有机会便冲将下来站在窗台上寻觅，它又试着去啄玻璃，立在窗框上向屋子里张望，喉咙里的颤音急促迫切。当晚，入夜，万籁俱寂，火脸斑儿的颤声隐约在屋顶、窗外、枝头……我与身边人讨论：若人与鸟可交流，是否该告诉它，它恋上的其实是自己？身边人未置可否，渐渐睡去。
