王国维（1877年—1927年），字伯隅、静安，号观堂、永观，汉族，浙江海宁盐官镇人。清末秀才。我国近现代在文学、美学、史学、哲学、古文字、考古学等各方面成就卓著的学术巨子，国学大师。

Book Abstract

至于这一则词话前半段所说的“自然中之物互相关系互相限制，然其写之于文学及美术中也，必遗其关系限制之处，故虽写实家亦理想家也”，则颇为费解。首先我们应该讨论的是：静安先生所说的“遗其关系限制之处”一语含义何指的问题。柯庆明在其《论王国维（人间词话）中的境界》一文中对此曾解释云：
当我们描写达到感知的过程，以达到呈现一个独立自足的生活世界时，我们是在舍去不相干的经验，把相干的纳入系统，组织成一个纸上完整的世界。也就是说，从另外一种意义上，它也是一种创造，而不只是一种单纯的对现实之模仿。①从这段话来看，柯氏的了解和说明似乎颇近于一般所谓“取舍剪裁”之意。然而静安先生何以不用一般习用的说法说“写之于文学及美术中也，必经过作者之取舍剪裁”，却偏要用不寻常的说法说“必遗其关系限制之处”，其道理正是在于他原来所指的并非对于外在对象的取舍剪裁。我们从静安先生表现于其杂文、《（红楼梦）评论》及《人间词话》等作品中的美学观点来看，就会发现他这段话所欲阐明的，只是在创作活动中作者对于外界事物的观照态度及外在事物在作品中的呈现而已，并未涉及诉诸知性的对于观照结果的排比取舍等步骤。因此所谓的“遗其关系限制”一语的意思，应该解释作任何一个事象，当其被描写于文学及艺术作品时，由于作者的直观感受作用，它已全部脱离了在现实世界中的诸种关系及时间空间的各种限制，而只成为一个直观感受之对象，于是它之存在于作品中也就不是单纯的“写实”的结果了。这种观点的产生实在是源于叔本华的美学理论。静安先生在其《叔本华与尼采》一文中，曾译述叔本华《意志及观念之世界》一书中论美术之言曰：
此特别之对象，其在科学中也，则藐然全体之一部分耳，而在美术中……则空间时间之形式对此而失其效，关系之法则至此而穷于用。①这段话显示出从叔本华的美学观点来看，任何一对象当其表现于文学艺术中时，原来就都已超然于现实利害及时空各种关系限制之外了。静安先生在其《（红楼梦）评论》一文中，于论及人生及美术之概观时，也曾对这种美学观念加以发挥说：
夫自然界之物，无不与吾人有利害之关系，纵非直接亦必间接相关系者也。苟吾人而能忘物与我之关系而观物，则夫自然界之山明水媚鸟飞花落，固无往而非华胥之国极乐之土也。岂独自然界而已，人类之言语动作悲欢啼笑，孰非美之对象乎？然此物既与吾人有利害之关系，而吾人欲强离其关系而观之，自非天才岂易及此！②从这些话来看，可见《人间词话》中所说的“必遗其关系限制之处”，原来就正指的是叔本华美学中“强离其关系而观之”的一种直观感受的表现。按这种说法，则任何对象当其写之于文学及艺术中时，纵然是“写境”的作品，也便因其超然于现实利害及时空之限制关系以外，而达到一种“理想”之境地了。所以静安先生在《人间词话》第五则中所说的互相关系互相限制的自然界之物，一旦“写之于文学及美术中也，必遗其关系限制之处，故虽写实家亦理想家也”，原来乃是自有其美学理论上之根据的，它并不仅是泛指一般的“取舍剪裁”之意。这是我们对这段词话所当具的根本了解。
此外，我们再由前面所分析的静安先生之“境界”说来看，他所提出的“境界”的含义，原来就特别着重于作者对其所写之事物应有自己真切之感受的这种特质，如此说来，则任何事物被写之于作品中时，当然便已经都或多或少为作者之情绪及人格之所浸润。因此对于一些富于理想之伟大诗人而言，其作品中即使是属于“写实”之作，便也往往不免沾有了“理想”的色彩。就以陶渊明所写的“采菊东篱下，悠然见南山”两句诗来看，尽管其所写的“菊花”、“东篱”、“南山”都是实有之物，而且“采菊”、“见山”也是实有之事，可是透过了这位富于理想之大诗人陶渊明的叙写，这两句就取材言，原当全属于“写境”的作品，遂竟而因作者陶渊明自己之一种邻于理想的感受，而使得这两句“写境”之作，也油然充满了“此中有真意，欲辨已忘言”的一种理想的意味。这也就正是静安先生之所以特别提出来说“大诗人所写之境亦必邻于理想”的缘故。
