第一章问世不凡
他从紫气中来
“隐阳山头戴紫，厉乡沟水流碧，松阴平铺古幽，竹枝高挑脱俗，一代仙人曾卧，贵地也哉贵地！”据说这是春秋末期一个野才人对曲仁里村的称颂。顺便拿他的称颂做个开头，小说就从这里写起。
周灵王元年——公元前五七一年，二月十五日的早晨，天空弥漫着紫色的水汽。因一夜春雨，曲仁里村那近百株大杏树上，红杏花在紫气之中一齐破苞怒放，神秘而俏美。那轻纱般朦胧而晶莹的紫色大气，颜色有轻有重，有浅有深。从上往下看，越往下，颜色越重；从东往西看，越往村西接近隐阳山的地方，颜色越深。如果说山外面的颜色是深紫色的，那么再往西，到山的里面，那颜色就成了墨紫色的了。直到这时你才会清楚地发现，那紫色的气流正从深山之中的山涧深处一团一团地翻滚上来。曲仁里村的房屋和树林，梦一般地朦胧着美丽的紫意，紫绛色的墙院，紫黑色的房脊，紫绿色的烟柳，紫灰色的梅枝，一片紫魂荡漾的异趣。初升的太阳宛若一条紫纱缠绕着的紫红圆镜，又像一位穿着红衣，披着紫色披风的送子仙女。当这位仙女踩着看不见走动的脚步挪上云天，从紫晕之中扒开紫色帷幕，用欢笑向大地播送着希望和祝福的时候，几声鲜嫩悦耳的婴儿啼哭从村子中间传了过来：
“啊哇——！啊哇——！”一个本应属于富家但却属于穷家的生命在曲仁里一家房舍之中降生了。
他的降生是艰难的。
“富家”——“穷家”——“艰难降生”，这里有着一长串该写而未写的故事，请允回笔，从头简叙。
这家姓李，老员外死后，撇下数百亩良田，上千贯家资。少员外名P1叫李乾，在洛阳附近当过几个月的小乡官，因感当差不自在，弃官归里。李乾非常大度，但是挥霍无度。妻子李氏花容月貌，更兼面目无比慈善，如果慈善可称人间大美，那么这大美和她容貌的俊美加在一起，她当堪称天下第一丽人。少员外李乾挥金如土，哪怕是山珍海味，吃剩的饭菜也要倒掉。妻子李氏劝他说： “观你这脾性，咱这家业反正是守不住， ‘自家混了填坑，资助别人传名’，我看咱不如除留下几小块地让我过勤劳日子养活咱俩之外，把其余的田产全送给村上那些穷苦的人家。”李乾与妻子一样乐善好施，特别大度的脾性使他心血猛一来潮，当真按照李氏的提议办了。村上的人家，根据贫苦程度不同，所得资助多少不同，家家都收到了一小份送来的田产。人们感激不尽，李家夫妇成了村上公共的恩人。
后来，李氏刚刚怀孕，李乾就因走远亲，醉酒而归失踪。胎儿在李氏腹内渐渐长大。一个月又一个月过去了。到了怀孕九个月的时候，胎儿该生下没有生下，她心里像没事儿人一样。到了九个半月的时候，她知道肚里的小生命过月了，但是她并没有害怕，自己跟自己打趣说： “过月小儿，值金宝儿，好歹是个小子吧。”到了第十个月的时候，看看还没分娩，她害怕了： “这怎么还不生呢？”她开始巴望，巴望孩子快快生下。巴呀巴，巴到第十一个月的时候，腹内的胎儿仍然纹丝不动。好一个喜欢安静的小生命！李氏女再也忍耐不住了，恨不能令肚里的孩子在一刻之内离体坠地！她用双手搓着自己的肚子，咬着牙往下揩，但是仍然无济于事。她开始向肚里的胎儿恳求：“孩子啊，娘的连心肉哇，你，快，快出生吧，娘巴望你出生已经巴到第十一个月的时候了。唉，谁知道今儿也巴，明儿也巴，巴到十一（你）不出家！”没想到窗外有耳， “巴到十一不出家”这旬急不可耐的难过话语竞被当成趣闻传扬出去，形成了后来的神妙而荒唐的传说，说她腹中怀着的这个小生命在娘肚里怀了八十一载。 “八十一”就是从“巴十一”， “巴到十一”演化而来。
文归正题。时光推进到这一年的二月十五，紫色的黎明刚刚降临，李氏女就已起床。她一边梳理头发，一边小声哼唱那支她平素最爱哼唱的村歌： “天水清，河水浑，俺上对岸去撑人，撑来一船男和女，个个都是善心人。”她一边哼唱，一边后退，又一次在床沿上坐下，没想到身子尚未坐稳，她就开始感到腹内阵痛起来。最初的一阵疼痛是短暂的，微弱的，但是越到后来疼得越明显，疼痛的阵子越长，而且阵与阵之间的距离越小。当晨炊的青烟和着紫气在各家房脊上袅袅绕转的时候，她腹内的阵痛就已开始难以忍受了。
