强化男孩自信的方法很多，抓住教育契机，对其进行称赞、鼓励是很重要的方式。男孩如果能够经常得到父母的赞赏，他们的信心就会倍增，做事更容易成功。
哈佛男孩小亮的父亲说：“家长应该做到的就是不断鼓励孩子。哪怕做错了事，也要先提孩子的优点，再指出孩子的不足，这样能够增强孩子的自信心。孩子一旦有了自信，那么学习就会变得主动，成绩就会不断提升。这是一个良性循环。”或许这就是小亮从小到大学习成绩一直非常优秀的原因。
从心理学角度而言，赞扬是一种积极的心理强化行为，能促进男孩的积极行动。相反，批评就是一种消极的心理强化行为。过多的批评就好像给人贴上了一个否定的标签，会使人产生焦虑和自卑的心态，最终或许会使人自暴自弃。曾有人对少年犯进行过一次研究，结果表明，很多孩子成为少年犯的原因之一，就是不良期望的影响。因为他们在小时候曾因偶尔犯错而被贴上了“不良少年”的标签，此种消极期望就引导着他们，让他们愈来愈相信自己就是一个“不良少年”，从而走上了让人心痛的犯罪道路。
