Book Abstract

与孩子沟通时，我们选择不同的语言会产生不同的效果：有些带来安慰，有些造成伤害；有些拉开距离，有些培养亲密；有些产生鸿沟，有些碰触心灵、促进依赖、增加力量。举一个例子来看。
在一家健康食品店购物时，我听到一阵孩子的哭声，循着声音，看到一位大约四岁的小女孩躺在地上放声大哭，似乎没有人陪在她身边。我环视四周，柜台旁的一个女人回答了我没有说出口的疑问：“我不知道她的母亲在哪儿，这个男孩好像是她的哥哥。”
女孩的哥哥大约九岁，站在走廊里的一辆购物车旁。我靠着痛哭的小女孩在地板上坐下，尝试猜测她为什么哭泣。
“你是不是等了很久，一直想离开这家商店？”我问。
“是的！”她说。
“你想回家了吗？”
“是的！”她哭得更伤心了。
“时间拖得太长，好像妈妈的速度很慢啊！”
“是的！”她回答。这一次，女孩抬起头，用泪汪汪的大眼睛看着我。

抚慰心灵的话未必能真正改变什么，莉齐依然没能在希望的时间回家，依然错过了喜欢的电视节目，改变的只是她的感觉，以及她在商店里度过剩余时间的方式。通常，我们习惯采用的谈话方式往往会否定孩子的想法，下面我们来看看，如果我“慈爱而温和”地否定莉齐的想法，将会出现什么情形。
假设看到莉齐躺在地上哭时，我问：“你为什么哭？”问“为什么”会让孩子产生防备心理，意味着我们看不出她有什么理由哭泣，然而，孩子们通常相信引起他们哭泣的原因显而易见；同时，“为什么”还暗示出对哭泣孩子的责备：“为一点儿事闹成这样，你是怎么回事？”
出于示范的目的，让我们假设，对于我的问题“你为什么哭”，莉齐的回答是：“我想回家。”
“我相信妈妈很快就会好的，”我这样说，“想看看这里的东西吗？” 乍一看，最后一句的话题转换似乎没有什么不妥，然而事实上，它否定了莉齐的感受，不是一次，而是两次。第一，对莉齐来说，妈妈花了很长的时间购物，而我随意推测这一过程会很快结束，否定了莉齐的急躁；第二，我试图转移莉齐的注意力的举动似乎是在说：“让我们假装你没有感到难受，而是过得很开心。”这否定了她表达自己的感受，诉说内心的烦躁和心愿的要求。

当孩子意识到他可以诚恳地表达自己的感受、放心地说出自己的想法，也看到家长重视他的看法后，常常会自己创造出解决问题的办法，或者平静地接受现实。相反，当孩子的感受被否定，并且没有能力解决眼前的问题时，他只会感到生气，觉得自己受了委屈。
在假设的情景中，我的行为使莉齐不满，她一定会把愤怒的情绪转移到母亲身上，加剧自己和母亲的不悦。相反，在现实中，我的出现让莉齐感到安慰，她的感受得到了肯定，于是，她可以平静地接受不能看喜欢的电视节目这个事实。
