自美国哈佛大学MelTil和Murray博士的移植小组于1954年成功地完成首例同卵双生子间的活体肾脏移植以来，肾脏移植经历了探索、发展和逐渐成熟的过程。如今，肾移植已被确认是治疗各种终末期肾病的最佳治疗方法，成为各种器官移植中开展最多、 成功率最高的器官移植，已是临床的常规手术。但是，由于肾移植患者术后要终生服用免疫抑制剂，移植术后病人的心血管、消化、血液等系统出现的内科问题的几率高于普通人群，这些问题会使患者移植肾失去功能，甚至造成病人的死亡。因此，肾移植内科学已成为广大。肾移植工作者的必修课程。
应此需求，首都医科大学北京朝阳医院器官移植中心肾移植部主任张小东教授组织我国内地及香港、台湾的肾移植领域相关专家，并邀请国际上该领域知名专家Anhur J．Matas教授（美国明尼苏达大学医学院器官移植中心主任、美国器官移植外科医师学会主席）、Kaztlnai Tanabe教授（日本东京女子医科大学泌尿外科主任），以及其他来自美国、荷兰、日本、新加坡的专家教授们，共同编著了这本《肾移植治疗学》。
