对于一些小型团体、小型机构而言，他们虽然有自己的大数据进行管理或者整合，但是他们也有体现自身价值的重要据。这些数据可能包括：成员名单、会员费用、活动费用、社交媒体分数量、项目成果、捐款数目等。对于这些小型团体而言，他们的挑战不数据收集，而是数据管理，可能不同的数据管理者管理着不同类别的数，这样，能否识别数据会不会带来巨大价值就是数据管理的一大挑战。解决这种困难的最好办法就是，需要对目标人群的行为、态度高度关注，并对这些行为、态度的数据进行收集、分析和整理，并由此加强相关度，这样就可以加强、修正甚至创造出新的项目和服务，达成组织目标，使沟通变得更加高效。由此可见，小型团体、小型机构、小型组织、小型俱乐部等也有资格拥有大数据。

球队在比赛时，每位运动员奔跑的距离并不能用肉眼观察来测得。但是通过对以前比赛的相关数据记录，并配合使用大数据的计算方式，就可以轻而易举地做到这一点，并且让每一位球员变得更加强大，让球队变得更加强大。实际上，NBA已经通过大数据的应用带来了一场巨大的体育技术革命。NBA联盟在比赛场馆安装了运动追踪系统，通过英特尔技术对这些数据进行分析，包括球员在赛场上不同区域的命中率、球员的能量区域效率。根据这些数据，教练可以在比赛前对球员布局做很好的调整，从而提高命中率。现在越来越多的体育俱乐部开始应用该运动追踪系统，从而有效地选择球员，该系统已经成为球队夺冠体系的重要组成部分。

小数据其实就是个体数据，是每个个体的数字化信息，但是这并不意味着它是没有意义的数据。对于那些正要发展成为大商业的小企业来说，它可能会对业务的影响更大，因为目前超过90％的零售活动都是在线下的小企业中进行的。小数据虽然拥有有限的数据流，但是它依然具有样本价值，只是这个样本范围较大数据小了些，如果小企业能够全面提高自己挖掘和分析数据的能力，那么通过小数据也同样能够获知某个群体的市场、购买、偏好和体验等。
