随着计算机应用技术的迅猛发展，采用先进的计算机成图和处理图像的技术已成为现代工程设计的主要技术手段，为适应信息处理技术的发展，普及先进的成图技术，推广、掌握先进的设计方法，夯实正确的产品设计基础，“图学与产品全生命周期性数字化技术”的理论、方法、技术和应用等，正在蓬勃发展。
为适应“加快发展先进制造业，建设一支具有精湛技艺、掌握核心技术和具有创新能力的高技能人才”的要求，人力资源和社会保障部中国就业培训技术指导中心、中国图学学会和国际几何与图学学会从国家对CAD技能人才的需求出发，共同对计算机绘图与三维数字建模应用型人才进行培训和考评，在全国开展CAD从业人员职业技能岗位培训。联合举办“全国CAD绘图师”考证，以促进计算机绘图技术的国际接轨和进展。每年6月和11月两度的计算机绘图师考证，成了工科院校学生以及在职工程技术人员验证绘图技术水平的重要指标之一，往往也成了毕业生就业的重要砝码。
根据这种状况，我们编写了《工程制图与CAD考证题解》一书。针对初学者有时因看不懂图纸，想象不出空间形状而卡壳，有时虽然看懂了图纸，想象出了空间形状，但苦于理不出计算机绘图程序而束手无策，我们通过多年来搜集的CAD考证题，分门别类，由浅入深，循序渐进，系统涵盖工程图学的全部知识和计算机绘图的操作规程，按照“学以致用”的原则，以“考证案例”作为切入点，汇编、解析有关的图学知识，贯彻新国家标准，适当介绍实用的外国标准，让学员通过绘图、读图解题，掌握相应的图学知识和计算机绘图技能。
本书编写宗旨是：少而精，学到手。让读者实现一多二少：多走捷径、少走弯路、少碰壁。按照“一叶知秋”的推理，本书汇集的“考证案例”，可让读者顺利提升绘图技能；书中的图例均有立体图对照，便于读者领会掌握。计算机绘图步骤，采取一步步展现的方式，便于初学者轻松入门。对于有一定基础的读者，也可直读CAD绘图师考证篇（第四篇），定会领略“捷径之乐”。
本书由孙凤翔主编，由朱瑞景、谢桂真副主编，于波、牟峰、刘航、孙冬、于莉、孙昀、王桂花、王辉、陈建立、于照福、胡波、孙战参加了编写工作，蓝海霞、高天奇、张瑜、台静静、杨华、李帆、梁卓冰参加了绘图、校对工作。
