如果说明度是色彩隐秘的骨骼，色相就好比色彩外表的华美肌肤。色相体现着色彩外向的性格，是色彩的灵魂。
三、纯度
纯度指的是色彩的鲜浊程度，它取决于一种颜色的波长单一程度。我们的视觉能辨认出的有色相感的色，都具有一定程度的鲜艳度，比如绿色，当它混入了白色时，虽然仍旧具有绿色相的特征，但它的鲜艳度降低了，明度提高了，成为淡绿色；当它混入黑色时，不但鲜艳度降低了，明度也降低了，成为暗绿色；当混入与绿色明度相似的中性灰时，它的明度没有改变，鲜艳度（纯度）降低了，成为灰绿色。
纯度变化系列是通过色阶表示的，它表示一个颜色从它的最高纯度色到最低纯度色之间的从鲜艳到混浊的等级变化。
1.2.2色彩心理
人们常常能感受到色彩对自己心理的影响，这些影响总是在不知不觉中发生作用，左右人们的情绪。色彩的心理效应发生在不同层次中，有些属直接的刺激，有些要通过间接的联想，更高层次则涉及人的观念、信仰。对于艺术家或设计者来说，无论哪一层次的作用都是不能忽视的。
一、色彩的物质性心理错觉
色彩的直接性心理效应来自色彩的物理光刺激。例如：在红色环境中，人的脉搏会加快，血压有所升高；在蓝色环境中，脉搏会减缓，情绪也较平静。冷色与暖色就是依据心理错觉对色彩的物理性反应来分类的。波长长的细光如橙光、黄色光，本身有暖和感；相反，波长短的紫色光、蓝色光、绿色光，有寒冷的感觉。
