3．1．10 色彩视觉生理特征
人眼感觉到的色彩未必与客观存在的物理光色相符，这是因为，在某些情况下，当眼睛接受光刺激时，眼睛的生理特征，也就是说人类的眼睛及光色感觉系统有着一些特有的生理现象。作为专业人员应了解这些特有的生理现象，并学会利用它们，以求得自己所需要达到的色彩效果。
1．明暗适应
感觉器官受到刺激，使感受起变化的过程和变化的状态叫做适应。视网膜上有感光度不同的两种接受器，所以眼睛有着能适应视野的亮度变化而自动调节感光度的功能。
明暗适应，也称为“光量适应”，是日常生活中常常遇见的视觉感知状况。当明部视觉向暗部视觉发生突然变化时，在此瞬间内是什么也看不见的。有一种现象经常遇到，坐在阳光下看书时，突然把视线移向黑暗的房间，感觉是一片漆黑；当突然进入正在放映的电影院里时，周围什么都看不见。夜晚如果将房间里亮着的灯光突然关掉，一时问，眼前会呈现黑糊糊的一片，要经过一段时间眼睛才能慢慢看见周围的物体形、色特征，这就是视觉的“暗适应”。
当暗部视觉向明部视觉发生突然变化时，瞬问内会感到晃眼眩晕。例如，当晚上睡觉时，卧室内的灯骤然打开，眼前就会是白晃晃的一片，但稍后就能清楚地辨认室内的各种形体与色彩，这一由暗至明的视觉过程称为“明适应”。
“暗适应”于初期感受提高较快，后期提高较慢，最初的15分钟可以基本适应，半小时后，视觉感受性可提高10万倍，达到完全的“暗适应”大约需要40分钟。“明适应”过程，即当视觉从暗光线转入亮光线过程时，瞳孔缩小，视觉由视网膜边缘的暗视觉转入中央窝的明视觉，适应光线从暗到亮的转换，从暗到亮的适应过程可以在极短的时间内完成，大约只需要1秒左右。
2．色彩适应
带着有色眼镜活动时，开始的一段时间可感受到镜片的蓝色、棕色或绿色对所见物体的色彩影响，过了一阵之后镜片上的颜色在视觉上消失。在白炽灯的黄色光线下，只能在刚开灯后不久的时问里感受到光的颜色，一会儿这种黄色即自然消失。在黄色灯光下，白纸看起来还是白的，对物体恢复了日光（白光）下的感觉。人眼对环境颜色刺激作用下造成的颜色视觉变化，是视觉对颜色光的适应所致，被称为“色彩适应”。
通常，色彩视觉的第一感受时间约为5～10秒，过了这段时问“色彩适应”开始起作用，这种习惯性地把物体色彩恢复到白光原始面貌状态的本能与“色彩恒定性”或说是“固有色”的概念有直接关系。色彩恒定性、固有色的概念是起作用的，可以使视觉避免被光源色造成的物体色的物理性质所蒙蔽，而始终能够充分把握物体色的真实属性。人眼在红光、黄光、蓝光下看一张白纸具有自动区分光源色与固有色的能力，这种能力使人们知道不管在什么色光照射下白纸仍然是白的，眼睛的这种色彩适应能力在日常生活等领域是有利的。而对于从事绘画及美术设计的人员来说可就利弊皆有了。有些表现敏锐的色彩绘画作品是画家在第一时间的第一色彩感觉的体现，也就是把眼睛没适应色彩之前的感受描绘了出来。
