本书强调光电传感技术的系统性，从内容构成上以光电传感系统设计思想和方法为导航，介绍了光电传感系统中所涉及的基础理论、光（辐射）源、光电传感器件及其典型应用、以及最新进展。用创新设计思想组织光、机、电、计算机相结合的几个典型探测系统设计方法和实现过程。本书力求反映光电传感技术领域中的新思想、新工具、新手段，通过实际应用范例，将最新的科研成果融入本书中以供读者借鉴，使读者循序渐进地理解和掌握光电传感系统设计的主要理论、方法、知识点及最新发展，全面提升读者的光电传感系统设计及应用能力。
本书由中北大学郝晓剑担任主编，中北大学刘吉和赵辉担任副主编。第2、9章和10.5节由郝晓剑编写，第1、6章和10.2节由刘吉编写，第5、8章和10.4节由赵辉编写，第3章由中北大学王小燕编写，第7章和10.3节由中北大学王艳红编写，第4章和10.1节由中北大学赵宇编写，郝晓剑负责统编全稿。
