《安妮日记》是根据安妮在大约十五岁时写下的B版整理而成。在这个版本中，安妮有时会回顾过去，对之前写下的日记附加评论。这些评论在《安妮日记》中以楷体表示。安妮最后一篇日记写于1944年8月1日。1944年8月4日，密室中的八人被捕。两个秘书发现了散落一地的安妮的日记，她们将日记藏在一个抽屉之中。安妮的死讯被确认后，她们把日记交给了她的父亲：奥托·弗兰克。

1942年6月14日星期天
那天，我看见你静静地躺在桌上，周围还有我的其他生日礼物。我的日记也就要从那一刻开始写起。
6月12日，星期五，早上我六点就醒了，这一点儿都不奇怪，因为那天是我的生日。但是那么早，他们是不准我起床的，我只好按捺住好奇心，一直等到六点四十五分。我迫不及待地朝餐厅跑去，小猫姆迪用爪子摩擦着我的腿，热烈地欢迎我。
七点刚过，我去找爸爸妈妈，再去客厅打开我的生日礼物。“你”立刻就跳入我的眼帘，可能是所有礼物中最美的一个。桌上的礼物还有一束玫瑰、几朵牡丹、一株盆栽。爸妈送的是一件蓝上衣、一副棋、一瓶葡萄汁，我尝了一小口葡萄汁，很像葡萄酒的味道（本来葡萄酒就是葡萄做的嘛），还有一套字谜、一瓶面霜、2．50荷兰盾、一张可兑换两本书的礼券。我还收到了一本书《暗箱》（可是玛格特已经有一本了，所以我想拿这本书交换其他东西）、一盘饼干（当然是我亲手做的，我可是个做饼干的高手呢）和很多糖果，还有妈妈做的草莓蛋挞。对了，还有一封奶奶写来的信，它来得真及时，当然了，碰巧而已。
后来，汉妮来找我一起上学。在课间休息时，我把饼干分给老师同学，然后就上课了。下午五点我才到家，因为我和班里的其他同学去了体育馆（他们不让我一起活动，我的肩膀和腰骨容易脱臼）。因为是我的生日，于是同学们让我决定玩什么游戏，我选择了排球。打完排球后，他们围着我一边跳舞，一边唱起了生日歌。我到家的时候，珊妮·兰德曼已经到了。伊丝‘华格娜、汉妮·格斯娜和贾奎琳·凡·马尔森同我一起从体育馆回来，因为我们同班。汉妮和珊妮曾是我最好的两个朋友，看见我们的人都说：“那不是安妮、汉妮和珊妮吗？”贾奎琳。凡·马尔森是我上犹太学校后认识的，现在是我最好的朋友。伊丝最好的朋友是汉妮，而珊妮转学后认识了新朋友。

今天早上，我躺在浴缸里，想着要是我能有一条像叮叮那样的狗该多好啊。我也会叫它叮叮，带它一起上学，可以把它放在门卫室里。要是天气不错，还可以让它去自行车停放处玩耍。

Introduction

1942年6月12日，安妮·弗兰克开始写日记。1944年，荷兰流亡政府的成员博克斯坦大臣宣布，希望战后收集有关的第一手资料，以此见证荷兰人民在德国占领之下饱受的折磨。他特别提到了信件和日记。听到这个消息后，安妮决定战后以日记为基础，出版一本书。于是她开始重写、修改日记，润色文字，删除不够有趣的段落，凭记忆增加一些内容。同时，她也保留了原始日记。在具有学术价值的《安妮日记：评注版》(1989年)中，就将安妮第一次写下的、未经编辑的日记称作A版，以此区分她第二次写成的、经过修改的日记(B版)。

经过再三考虑，奥托·弗兰克决定完成女儿的心愿，出版她的日记。他从A、B两个版本中选取材料，重新编辑成较短的版本(C版)，这也就是后来全世界读者熟悉的《安妮日记》。
日记出版后，有人质疑其真实性。于是荷兰战争文献资料所下令彻底调查。一旦证实属实，将日记的全部内容连同详细的调查报告一并出版。这就有了前面提到的《安妮日记：评注版》，它不但包括A、B、C三个版本，还包括弗兰克家族的背景资料，他们被捕与押解的情况，对安妮笔迹的研究以及研究时使用的资料文件。
位于巴塞尔(瑞士)的“安妮·弗兰克基金会”拥有安妮日记的版权。该基金会决定为广大读者出版一种全新的增补版本。新版本包括了奥托·弗兰克修订的旧版的所有内容。作家兼翻译家米杰·帕斯勒担任新版本的编辑修订工作，对奥托·弗兰克的原版进行补充，同时选取A、B两版的内容。米杰·帕斯勒的最终版本经安妮·弗兰克基金会同意，增加了大约百分之三十的内容，使读者更加了解安妮的内心世界。
在安妮写下第二版(B版)时，她为日记中的人物冠以了假名。后来奥托·弗兰克在整理时，决定将家人的名字改为真名，其他人则沿用安妮起的假名。可是这么多年来，人们早已熟知帮助密室成员的几个人的真实姓名，出于对他们曾经给予的无私帮助的回报，在本译著这个版本中使用他们的真名，而对于不愿暴露身份的人，则使用荷兰战争文献资料所为他们起的姓名首写字母缩写。
