谁应该读这本书
简单的回答是：没有人。这是我撰写本书的一个基本原因。经理人的压力在不断增加，留给他们的只有更少的时间以及巨大压力下的执行。本书是我在普利司通与许多经理人和主管共事十余年基础上，对他们需求的直接反馈。他们所寻求的是一系列管理概念的执行纲要，他们可以参考这些概念。也就是说，实用的商业工具可用于提高团队和公司的绩效。
回到最初的问题：没有人应该读这本书，你可能没时间。相反，你应该随身携带这本书，一旦你需要解决一个问题，就可以快速浏览或快速提醒你过去曾使用过的工具。

如何找到一个工具
当我最初想写这本书的时候，我最关心的是如何确保工具可用并且有用。基于我自己的体验以及与经理人的讨论，我意识到“可用性”的一个关键点是能够快速找到合适的工具。经过多次尝试，我决定提供两种工具以适应不同的需求。这两种工具分别是项目矩阵和日常矩阵。
项目矩阵
项目矩阵可用于公司处理特定项目。矩阵的左轴列出了一些通用的项目类型。它们分别是商业战略、销售和市场、制造、顾客/供应链、质量、设计和信息技术。
矩阵的顶轴列出了一个项目的几个阶段。当然，不同的项目相异，但根据经验，大多数遵循六个基本阶段。
第一阶段是定义目标。一旦项目目标确定，就可以开始分析。当情形被充分理解，就可以开始创建选项和选择来满足目标需要。希望该项目创建大量可能的选项。然而，在实践中，公司没有时间或资源来采用所有的选项。因此，应该选择最合适的，然后成功地利用它们。最后，监控和审查也是项目成功的关键要素。
