胡山林，男，生于1951年，河南大学文学院教授，主要研究方向：文艺欣赏理论、文艺批评与文化研究，主要著述有：《文学欣赏导引》、《文艺欣赏心理学》（修订本）、《寻找灵魂的归宿》、《文学艺术与终极关怀》、《文学与人生》、《文学欣赏》、《文学概论》、《文学欣赏新编》等。曾获得河南大学“十佳教工”（2001）、“河南省文明教师”（2001）、“河南大学名师”（2004）、“河南省优秀教师”（2004）、“全国第二届教育硕士优秀教师”（2010）等荣誉称号；曾主持完成国家社科基金项目《终极关怀：文学的深层精神价值研究》，被国家社会科学规划办公室评为优秀项目。
中国最大的独立第三方教学评价网站——“评师网”联合“搜狐教育频道”发布的《2010中国高校最受欢迎教授榜》和《各专业（课程）最受欢迎十大教授榜》中，荣登“2010河南省最受欢迎十大教授榜”和“2010通识类课程最受欢迎十大教授榜（非211院校类）”。

Book Abstract

从终极角度看人生，人从虚无中来，又回到虚无中去，匆匆几十年，弹指一挥间，不是“过程”又是什么呢？当然，“过程”中矗立着一个个“目的”，但“目的”只是一个个“点”，而将“点”贯穿起来的是“过程”。正如史铁生所说，“目的”的抵达是短暂的，抵达之前或之后都是“过程”。“目的”恰似人生旅途中的路标（或路灯），其存在的意义在于引出“过程”，照亮“过程”。假如没有“过程”的美好与精彩，假如你意识不到“过程”中的追求、奋斗、激情、悲欢本身就是生命力的释放，就是精神自身的愉悦，因而就是意义之所在，而仅仅把意义寄托在“目的”上，那么等你又回到虚无的时候，就会感到无比的悲凉，因为你又变得一无所有。总之，如果你一颗心系于所得系于占有，当你一无所有时你就会感到恐惧，离开这个世界你将心情黯然；但你若把心系于“过程”，那么此生中只要你尽力了，那么成功也罢，失败也罢，哭也罢，笑也罢，本身就是享受。你无怨无悔，你就会笑着离开这个世界。
总之，理解史铁生还是要掌握他看问题的基本视点——终极。视点找准了，思路就豁然贯通了。
史铁生对生命意义的理解和阐释，来自他独特的生命体验，来自他敏感的心灵和善于深思的天性。但毋庸置疑，也与现代哲学思潮有关，现代哲学思潮充分肯定“过程”的意义和价值。
在西方，传统的基督教文明认为人生的目的不在现世而在遥远的天国，人活着就是为了不断地吃苦赎罪以便死后进入天堂。现代工业文明背景下人们生活的目的当然不再是遥远的天堂，而是未来的某个具体功利目标和更高的社会阶层。为了登上社会高层，为了成为管理者和上等人，人们宁愿牺牲自己的“现在”。除了未来的某个目标之外，“现在”本身并无多大价值，“现在”成为某个目标的牺牲品，一个目标达到了，还有下一个目标，生活本身则永远是一种暂时的和虚假的东西。上述人生观的共同点是，把生命的意义寄托于虚幻的“未来”而独独忘却了现在，忘却了眼下的现实生活。于是，生活本身成了一场永无穷尽的苦役。后来，人们终于发现这是对生命的扭曲、压抑和异化。于是开始了对生命本来意义的沉思。
早在17世纪，法国思想家帕斯卡尔对生命沉思后指出，人必死，但人又追求永恒，这本身便是一大谬误；所以人要特别珍惜现在的每一时刻，生命的价值不在死后产生，而是在死前这段或长或短的过程中。
德国古典哲学大师黑格尔也阐述过生命过程与结果之间的辩证关系。他一再强调，生命乃是一种变化过程，其实质就在这变化过程本身。他还批评有些人总爱忘记这一点，只看结果不看过程。
