Author Description

袁行霈，北京大学中文系教授、博士生导师，北京大学中国传统文化研究中心主任，中央文史研究馆馆长。主要著作有：《中国诗歌艺术研究》、《陶渊明研究》、《中国文学概论》、《中国诗学通论》等，主编有四卷本《中国文学史》及四卷本《中华文明史》。

第六章中国文学传播的方式与媒介
文学传播，是研究文学应当注意的一个重要方面。随着社会的发展，传播的方式和媒介有所改变，并更加丰富，这对文学作品的流传，进而对文学创作都产生了直接的不可忽视的影响。古代文学传播的方式与媒介多种多样，本章只能选其比较重要而且有趣的若干方面略作说明，实际上是带有举例性质的，希望引起读者对这个问题进一步研究的兴趣。
第一节口头流传与演唱
口头流传或者说口耳相传，是最古老的一种传播方式，至今仍然没有废除。上古时代的文学作品，无论神话、诗歌，都是先在口头流传，然后才用文字记录下来。那些上古的歌谣，如《弹歌》：“断竹，续竹，飞土，逐肉。”相传是黄帝时的歌谣，记录在《吴越春秋》这部书中。再如《蜡辞》：“土反其宅，水归其壑，昆虫毋作，草木归其泽。”相传是伊耆氏时的歌谣，记录在《礼记》这部书中。又如《候人歌》：“候人兮猗。”相传是大禹治水时，他的妻子涂山女等候他时所唱的，记录在《吕氏春秋》这部书中。姑且不论这些歌谣的时代是不是真的那么遥远，但可以肯定的是从口头流传到用文字记录下来，经过了一段很长的时间。《诗经》中的那些诗歌，原先也是在口头流传的，到了春秋中叶才经过整理并用文字记录下来。
Introduction

1987年9月，我应日本爱知大学中岛敏夫教授的邀请，讲授中国文学概论。课后途经香港回国。香港出版界的人士看了我的讲稿后，决定付梓印行。在他们的热诚关怀下，这本小书得以与读者见面了。
这本书虽然是为外国入学习中国文学而写的，但也充分考虑到中国读者的需要。长期以来，我们对中国文学的研究，偏重于史的描述和单个作家、作品的评论，而缺少多侧面的透视和总体的论述。文学史的编写体例已形成一种模式，一时难以突破。在这种情况下，尝试着用概论的方式阐述中国文学，也许可以为读者提供若干新的视点，从而使读者对中国文学产生更浓厚的兴趣。
在撰写过程中，参考了前人和时贤的多种论著，凡有引用，均已标明。有的启发我深入思考，有的提供我研究的线索，或未一一注出，谨在此一并表示感谢。郭绍虞先生的《中国文学批评史》、褚斌杰先生的《中国古代文体概论》、齐治平先生的《唐宋诗之争概述》给我教益尤多，应特别提出致谢。完稿之后，承孟二冬君和马自力君为我核对了全部引文，感谢不尽。限于学力，书中定有不少疏漏谬误之处，敬祈读者教正。
最后，我由衷感谢爱知大学，感谢中岛教授，如果没有他们的邀请和“命题”，我是不会想到撰写这本书的。
