高全之，1949年生于香港，四岁随父母到台湾，在台湾成长。美国纽约州立大学布法罗分校电脑科学硕士。美国航太工业资深电脑软件工程师。1976年出版《当代中国小说评论》，该书略作修订之后，1998年改名《从张爱玲到林怀民》；1997年完成《王祯和的小说世界》；2003年出版《张爱玲学：批评？考证？钩沉》，被海峡两岸专家学者推崇为张爱玲研究最重要的著作之一。

Book Abstract

母亲是台南县北门乡人，家族世代都住在北门乡。据外公说，陈家是福建泉州人，郑成功时便随军来台，算是非常早移民台湾的汉人，之后便在这个海边的小村落住了下来，一直到母亲十几岁时，举家迁往高雄，结束了陈家在北门两百多年的历史。二〇〇八年的夏天，我特地采了一此北门，眼见为凭，那由红砖古屋形塑出的蜿蜒小巷，贯穿着的古老聚落，活脱脱就是个古村落的样貌。

从母亲口中听来的，她幼时的北门充满着盐田、鱼塭、果树、家中的大宅院、拿来玩耍的龙银，大宅院外朴质的人们，以及摧残着这些人们的赤贫和乌脚病，那是一幅南台湾传统乡间的真实生活景象，透过母亲幼时的眼，我好似真的能见到一部分当时的情景。南鲲乡的大庙前为歌仔戏痴迷的乡民们；红砖房里，不时可见因终日操劳而早衰的居民身影；而母亲家中的鱼塭，则不可思议的充满了各式肥美的鱼虾。母亲在田野里欢天喜地的度过童年的每一天，这些甜蜜与苦涩相伴的记忆，每每在她诉说着北门时，流泻一地，真实得无处隐藏。

母亲和父亲一样，虽来自不同的地方，却都同样生活在一个十分写实，毫不造作的年代。他们的生活经验，也纯粹得无可取代，就如同我要在这本书里为母亲保留的位置一样，母亲的味道，当然就是纯纯的台湾味了。

这个台湾的味道，在母亲二十岁那年，经由媒妁之言，由遥远的南部高雄嫁来基隆七堵之后，突然间显得奇特了起来，当时的七堵是个阡陌纵横，几条小街外加挂在天边的几排小山就完事的小乡，对于早已习惯每晚去六合夜市逛逛的小姐来说，无异是个极大的环境冲击。

让情况更显无助的是，母亲嫁了一个仅仅由公公以及丈夫组成的外省家族，这家人只吃包子、馒头、水饺跟大蒜，“我每天掉眼泪。”妈总是这么说着。

一般来讲，你吃什么食物就是什么人，反之亦然。母亲是大米海鲜人，而她嫁的王家却是不折不扣的小麦大蒜人；这个组合，确立了她在饮食上宿命的无奈以及我口味上的基调—南腔北调。母亲为了满足爷爷的饮食口味，和左邻右舍的山东家庭当起了好邻居，自此北方面食、包子馒头、烙饼水饺样样上手，但是在家里厨房边那个局促的小餐桌上，母亲也将她熟悉的口味，在不知多少个寒暑岁月，一点一滴慢慢地拌入了我们的饭碗里，也成就了我的味觉世界中，评判一切的基础，对我来说，这个混合着台湾以及外省的口味，就是妈妈的味道。

《张爱玲学》初版自序曾记陈子善教授建议安排出大陆版，因我执意不得顺应情势更动文字而作罢。子善兄宽宏大量，未因此而怪罪。

稍后我与陈器文教授讨论此事。器文姐于二〇〇三年四月六日来信，要我耐心待变。句句是理：

“小说家总是想远离政治，小说却自己逼近了政治”——这是大陆作家莫言在他《天堂蒜苔之歌》的卷首题言。……周英雄与王德威二人为莫言也写过许多序论，看来是十分激赏的。他的《天堂蒜苔之歌》及相关著作《酒国》、《十三步》等等对官僚的批判十分尖锐，初看令人诧异，却也相安无事——所以，我想，会不会比我们大家想象的要好些呢？此地某些意识形态强烈的人，对张爱玲之被视为“台湾作家”并不以为然……所以，你的书如果能简体出版，是别有意义的，是十分有意义的。

我也理解入境问俗的必要。书籍以不同版本适应区域差异，确是中外皆同。举个浅显的例子：英国青少年科幻小说《哈利·；波特》在美国发行，就特别根据美式英语习惯而略为变更。比如说，英文字睡衣在英美两国用字不同，就得换字。

所以我同意大陆版因法令或社会整体环境不同而修改本书内容。然而为慎重起见，所有变动都经过台湾麦田出版社审核。大陆版实为海峡两岸出版社求同存异的结果。我希望种种妥协之后，本书仍然拓宽大陆张学讨论的平台，展示文学析赏的新角度。大陆读者不必同意本书所有论见。我期盼本书析梳方法与思辨领域间或异于现存大陆张论，读者因而体会到文学意见繁复多面的种种可能。或对错或高下或扯平，各人结论可以不同。本来那就是文学令人着迷的原因之一。

在我从迟疑难决到乐观其成的转折过程里，麦田责编吴惠贞小姐始终支持，未曾为难或勉强。真好。

重点总归是张爱玲文学。多本张论，说不定可以增加读张谈张的兴致。说不定。
