严爱群，1997年赴剑桥，深受文学情境的感动，开始文学旅行的札记。1998年开始文学教学，期间不断造访英国文学之乡，文学行囊的初稿成形。2001年赴英攻读博士学位，背起文学行囊，带上artpen一枝、手札一本，并透视镜头，记录每一个文学行脚。
廖培蓉，国文学硕士，专攻维吉尼亚·吴尔芙（Vriginia Woolf）。后赴英国诺汀汉大学攻读英国文学与教学博士学位。目前定居美国马里兰州。

现在小朋友口中的《名侦探柯南》就是福尔摩斯的作者柯南·道尔爵士的化身。提到福尔摩斯，我们又回到原始的疑惑，这人存在吗？侦探案里的故事背景地贝克街221号，还有故事里所提及的人物，几乎都是众人耳熟能详的，时间上与空间上的交错，让福尔摩斯迷们深信真有其人。
伦敦贝克街221B号附近，总有一群拿着观光指南的旅人驻足徘徊，这些人会全数被指引到237和239号去，其实221B号这个住处是不存在的。不过到了237和239号大家还是会满脑子疑问：“这真的是福尔摩斯博物馆吗？”唉！福尔摩斯至今还是不忘捉弄大家一番，然而大多数的福尔摩斯迷会对这小小的戏弄留下深刻的印象。
你会装饰圣诞树、吊圣诞袜、向圣诞老人许愿吗？如果你会的话，不妨也捎封信给福尔摩斯，要求他帮你解决一些疑难问题吧！这栋博物馆是贝克街上仅存的一栋维多利亚式的建筑，内有福尔摩斯时代的摆设和纪念品贩卖处，每年至少有几十万的福尔摩斯迷来此造访。其实在进入福尔摩斯的神秘世界之前，不妨到邻近的摄政公园走一走，先消除旅途中的疲惫，让脑子里错综复杂的情绪，随着天上浮云飘至他处。
到底是谁创造了这个鼎鼎大名的侦探家呢？福尔摩斯的创造者柯南·道尔，生于1859年苏格兰的爱丁堡，他是一位医生，因为生意清淡，便趁着闲暇写起了侦探小说《血字之谜》（A Study in Scarlet），也因此创造了夏洛克·福尔摩斯（Sherlock Holmes）这位闻名全球的传奇人物。因为小说太受欢迎，而且到了作者自己都受不了的地步，为了使自己的作品保持水准，也为了不使自己因迎合大众口味而成为写书匠，柯南·道尔本想就此停笔，但这系列的小说却因读者的强烈要求而继续出版，当然柯南·道尔写作的情绪与意愿就不那么高了。
福尔摩斯迷一定不会忘记他那高大的身材、瘦长的脸，高额、浓眉、鹰鼻、薄唇、灰色眼睛和很高的说话声音。他总是戴着猎鹿帽，穿长披风，吸着烟斗的形象会不知不觉地浮现在读者的脑海中，最后不知不觉进入《血字之谜》的故事中。
医学博士约翰·华生（John Watson）在旅店中听到一名业余的科学家福尔摩斯，正在找一位房客与他一起分租房子，于是决定和福尔摩斯住在一起。他发现福尔摩斯是个对化学、解剖学及犯罪心理学有深刻认识的人。一天，福尔摩斯拿到一封苏格兰警探托比斯·葛瑞格生（Tobias Gregson）的信，信中警探表示希望福尔摩斯能帮忙侦破一桩谋杀案。死者是一名克利夫（Cleveland）的绅士德瑞伯（Enoch J.Drebber），他在罗利斯登花园（Lauriston Garden）遭人谋杀，案情复杂，于是福尔摩斯便和华生一同开始调查此案。
在现场，当医护人员抬走死尸时，一枚女人的结婚戒指跌落在地上，于是警方当即判定有女性涉案，另外他们又发现墙上有“RACHE”的血迹字样，便猜测凶手可能是个叫做“Rachel”的女人。不过福尔摩斯暗中仔细勘查过案发现场后却有另一番想法，他判断：凶手身高超过两米，面色鲜红，穿方头靴；他抽印度的崔企诺波里（Trichinopoly Cigar）雪茄，右手留有长指甲。他乘着一辆四轮车到达谋杀案现场，而拉车的马在外前腿钉了新蹄铁。凶手谋杀方式是下毒，而Rache并非女人的名字瑞秋（Rachel）之缩写，倒是德文的复仇，当然福尔摩斯这个初步的判断受到警方的质疑。
一天晚上葛瑞格生和李斯崔来找福尔摩斯一起讨论这件案子，却意外抓到当晚驾四轮车的车夫贺普（Jefferson Hope），他道出事件的始末。原来贺普有着如罗密欧与朱丽叶般的凄美爱情故事，他心爱的露西（Lucy）被迫嫁做他妇（就是死者的妻子），露西誓死抵抗，贺普知情连忙赶去，没想到却来不及见露西最后一面，于是偷偷将露西手上的结婚戒指取下，并决定要帮她报仇。
冤家路窄，德瑞伯有天晚上喝醉了，便叫了贺普的车回家，贺普认出他来，便将他载到案发现场，他拿出露西的结婚戒指，并告诉德瑞伯他们两个只有一人能活过今晚。于是贺普拿出一个小盒子，里头装了两粒药丸，一粒无毒、一粒致命，他让德瑞伯选了一颗吞下去，自己则吞下另一粒。当然，德瑞伯选到了毒药当场死亡，贺普帮露西报了仇。命案终于水落石出，不过上法庭的那天，贺普却心脏病突发撒手归西，案子也就这样结束了。
