Book Abstract

我把我的杰作拿给大人看，我问他们，我的画是不是使他们害怕。
他们回答我：“为什么一顶帽子会让人害怕呢？ ” 我画的不是一顶帽子。画的是一条蟒蛇正在消化一头大象。
于是我把蟒蛇的腹腔内部画出来，让大人能够明白。
大人总是需要解释。我的二号画是这样的：大人劝我把封闭的或者剖开的蟒蛇图放在一边，还不如去关心地理、历史、算术和语法。这样，我在六岁的时候就放弃了当画家的美好生涯。我的一号画和二号画的失败使我泄气了。大人单靠自己是从来什么也弄不懂的，对孩子来说，老是给他们做解释真烦死人了…… 因此我不得不选择另一种职业，我学会了驾驶飞机。我差不多飞到过世界各地。不错，地理帮了我的大忙。我一眼就能认出中国和亚里桑那。如果在黑夜里迷失航向，这可有用了口这样，在我的生活中，我跟多不胜数的人有过多不胜数的接触。我长期生活在大人中间。我就近观察过他们。这并没有改善我对他们的看法。
当我遇到一个在我看来算是头脑清醒的大人时，我就把始终带在身上的一号画拿出来，在这个大人身上试试看。我想知道这个大人是不是当真有良好的理解力。但是大人回答我：“这是一顶帽子。”于是我不向他谈起蟒蛇、原始森林，也不谈起星星。
我转到他能理解的范围内。我向他谈起桥牌、高尔夫球、政治和领带。大人对认识一个如此善解人意的人感到十分高兴…… 我这样独个儿生活，没有人能推心置腹地交谈，直至六年前在撒哈拉沙漠遇到了一次故障。我的发动机有样东西碎裂L由于我身边既没有机械师，又没有同机的人，我准备尝试独自修好发动机，虽然这很困难。对我来说，这是一个生死问题。我的水只够喝一星期。
这样，第一天晚上，在远离人居有几千里的地方，我睡在沙子上。我比在大洋中遇难待在木筏上的人还要孤独。

因此，我惊讶得睁圆了眼睛，望着这从天而降的人儿。别忘了我待在远离人居有几千里的地方。可是我的小人儿似乎既没有迷路，也没有饿得要命，渴得要命，害怕得要命。
从表面看来，他丝毫不像一个孩子迷失在沙漠中，远离有人住的地方几千里路。我终于能够说话了，便对他说： “可是……你在这儿千吗？” 他柔声细气地对我又说一遍，仿佛在说一件十分严肃的事儿： “请你……给我画一只绵羊……” 当神秘不可测的事儿如雷贯顶的时候，那是不可抗拒的。不管我觉得在远离人居几千里的地方，身处死亡险境，这样的情况是多么荒谬，我还是从衣兜里掏出一张纸和一支钢笔。但这时我想起我专门研究过地理、历史、算术和语法，我便对小人儿说（有点儿没好气地）我不会绘画。
他回答我说： “没关系。请你给我画一只绵羊。” 由于我从来没有画过绵羊，我给他重新画了我只会画的、两幅画中的一幅。就是身体封闭的蟒蛇。我惊讶地听到小人儿对我说： “不！不！我不要画一条蟒蛇吞吃了一只大象。
蟒蛇多么吓人啊，一只大象占满了地方。我那里地方很小。我需要画一只绵羊。请你给我画一只绵羊吧。” 于是我画出来了口他仔细地瞧了瞧，然后说： “不！这一头已经病歪歪的。请你再画一只羊。
” 我又画了一只羊：我的朋友可爱而宽容地露出微笑： “你看得很清楚……这不是一只绵羊，这是一只山羊。它有角……”P2-7

现在的阅读，特别是经典阅读，某种程度上是陷入困境的。
经典阅读其实遇到两方面挑战，一方面是应试教育挑战，另一方面是网络的挑战。网络阅读当然有它的意义和价值，我们不否认。但是网络阅读有两个弱点：第一个弱点，它的阅读是“非个性”的，是一个群体的阅读，是炒作的阅读；另外一个弱点是不能进行深度阅读。而“个性化阅读”和“深度阅读”是经典的特点。所以我们强调阅读经典，既是教育本质所决定，也是当下中国教育所存在的问题决定我们必须要经典阅读。
经典阅读分两类，首先是阅读原典。但是青少年阅读原典有一定困难，而且还有时间问题，因此经典的改写就有非常大的意义一一它是一个桥梁，是一个引路人，当然这个 “引路” 必须是高手。
这些年我提倡经典，跟许多老师讨论过现在孩子阅读经典适合的时间段：小学五年级、六年级，初中一年级、二年级，孩子有四年时间。因为三四年级太小了，到初三要应试了。这是一段珍贵的时间。而且根据我的接触，在这四个年级里面的老师有很高的积极性，他们毕竟离应试教育有一点点距离，因此有这么一种可能性来推动学生阅读。所以我希望家长、教师都能抓住这段时间，挑选名家改写的经典读本，让孩子能够亲近名著，让经典阅读进入语文教育和家庭教育。
