我们同样用一个具体的博弈——“选美比赛”竞猜博弈来说明人们的行为并不是一开始就是足够的理性的，而是有限推理的。
凯恩斯在《就业、利息与货币通论》中有一段关于选美比赛的著名叙述：“报纸上发表一百张照片，要参加竞赛者选出其中最美的六个，谁的结果与全体竞赛的平均爱好者最接近，谁就得奖。在这种情况下，每一参加竞赛者都不选他自己认为最美的六个，而选他认为别人认为最美的六个”，这就是所谓“选美比赛”竞猜博弈的基本思想。研究者（Nagel，1995；Ho，Camerer，Weigelt，1998）为此设计了一个简单的博弈实验：Ⅳ个参加者同时在[0，100]选择一个数字Xi，计算所有数字的平均数再乘以一个小于1的系数尸（比如尸=0.7），将得到的数值（即平均数的70010）与每个参加者的选择相比，最接近的参加者就获得一笔支付。
按照经典博弈论的推演，这是一个占优可解博弈，可以通过重复剔除劣战略得出唯一均衡解，具体过程是：选择70以上的数字就是劣战略，因为目标值是平均数的70%，最高也只能是70，所以选择任何低于70的数字都能使情况有所改善。如果每个人都将大于70的数字排除，那么最高的目标值就变成49（70x70%），这样选择49～70的数字又变成劣战略。依次类推，通过重复剔除劣战略最后只能得出唯一的均衡解0。

作为一种主体相互作用的分析语言，博弈论最为重要的核心概念是“纳什均衡”（Nash Equilibrium），纳什均衡也是所有博弈均衡概念的理论基点。在最简单的两人博弈中，纳什均衡可以通俗表达为“给定你的选择，我要把我的效用最大化；给定我的选择，你也要把你的效用最大化”。从方法论的角度来了解，博弈论建立了一种独特的互动分析范式，这种博弈互动分析范式的先验假定是：任何主体都是以个体效用最大化为基本行为准则的，而这种基本行为准则支配了任何时候任何条件下的主体策略选择。在理解或应用这种博弈分析范式的时候，我们可以把纳什均衡更形象地称为“互为最适反
应”（Reciprocal Best Response）。此时，博弈均衡就是纳什均衡，而纳什均衡也就是博弈均衡。
从纳什均衡的精练发展脉络来看，塞尔滕的子博弈完美纳什均衡（Subgame Perfect Nash Equilibrium）建立了纳什均衡的动态分析语言，海萨尼转换和贝叶斯纳什均衡（Bayesian Nashequilibrium）则巧妙利用了“自然的先验信念”与“主体的后验判断”之间的必然联系，因为任何策略行为及其后的信念判断在最终极的意义上，一定可以找到一个让一切思想成为体系、让一切行为成为理性、让一切存在成为合理的“自然”！
