一．什么是情商
1．情商的由来
虽然在心理学中，情商算是一个较新的概念，但与其相关的想法在心理学中早就存在。如美国心理学家桑代克（E.Thorndike）在1920年就有过社会智力的论述，他认为社会智力“就是理解和管理男人和女人、男孩和女孩从而妥善处理人的关系的能力”。1985年美国耶鲁大学心理学教授斯滕伯格（R.Sternberg）也认为，社会智力是一种截然有别于学业智力的能力，但却可以决定个体现实生活的成败。例如，敏锐破译情绪非言语信息的能力与管理成效大有关系。美国另一位著名的心理学家加德纳（H.Gardner）于1983年提出了多元智能理论，他的多元智能包括八种，其中有内省智能和人际交往智能，这两种智力都与情绪有关，主要表现为察觉并区分自己和他人的情绪、意向、动机及感觉的能力，前者关乎自我情绪，后者则关乎他人情绪。正式研究情商的鼻祖是美国耶鲁大学的心理学家彼得?萨洛维（Peter Salovey）和新罕布什尔大学的约翰?梅耶（John Mayer），他们于1990年正式提出了情绪智力的概念，用它来诠释人类对自我和他人情绪的认识、控制和调节的能力。1997年，他们又对这一情绪智力概念作了完善和补充，形成了一个有结构的模型，从而使情绪智力逐渐成为一个科学的概念。他们的情绪智力概念与后来被人们广为熟悉和接受的情商概念实际上是同一个东西。如果说萨洛维和梅耶的情绪智力还停留在学术研究的层面上，是科学研究的对象，那么美国心理学家，同时又是专栏作家的丹尼尔?戈尔曼（Daniel Goleman）则让它成为了一个大众的话题。在收集了大量有关研究和生活中的个案后，戈尔曼于1995年出版了《情绪智力》（Emotional Intelligence）一书，书中首次公开使用了情商的概念，他所提出的情商只是借助于智商这一人们非常熟悉的概念，并非像智商那样是通过测验后计算出来的一种商数。戈尔曼在书中对情商概念进行了详尽的描述，并把它作为衡量一个人情绪智力水平的指标。如果说之前的情绪智力还是学院派人士在校园里的研究课题，那么自从戈尔曼的著作出版以来，情商概念从象牙塔走进了民间，逐渐被人们所熟悉和接纳，现在更是被人们所津津乐道。对此戈尔曼功不可没。《情绪智力》一经问世就以极大的魅力轰动全美,遥居畅销书榜首,并且很快被译成多种文字,情绪智力随之成为一个世界性的热门话题。随后，戈尔曼分别在1998年、2002年和2006年又相继出版了《工作与情绪智力》、《本质领导力：学会用情商去领导》和《社会智力》三本专著，把情商推向生活和职业领域的各个方面。在学术界对情绪智力的研究也是方兴未艾，据统计，目前美国论文数据库收录的研究情绪智力的博士论文就有700多篇。各国相关的论文数不胜数。近年来在心理学领域，神经科学的崛起使研究者能够探索情绪智力的神经机制，从而使得情绪智力获得了更高的科学地位。
虽然情绪智力和情商是指同一种东西，但它们的运用场合是有区别的。情绪智力更多是在学术界里使用，作为一种科学的概念；而情商则更多在普通大众口中流传，在日常生活中更受重视。在本书中虽然两种说法混合使用，但既然本书是一本通俗读物，自然也就更青睐于情商这一称谓。
情商虽已成为人们热议的话题，但它的真正含义是什么？它包含哪些内容？如何了解一个人的情商？情商可以培养吗？如果情商发展方面有缺陷，那将导致怎样的严重后果？对此恐怕不少人还是不甚清楚的，许多人口中的情商实际上与心理学家严格定义的情绪智力概念有很大的区别，因而有必要首先对情商作一个比较完整的介绍。
总体上而言，情绪智力理论和研究可以归纳为三大学派：
代表第一种观点的是情绪智力研究的鼻祖萨洛维和梅耶，他们给出的定义是：情绪智力是一种加工情绪信息的能力，其中包括准确评价自己和他人情绪，恰当表达情绪，以及适应性调控情绪。萨洛维和梅耶完全是从情绪的角度来定义情绪智力的。这是学院派对情绪智力的最经典解释，反映了学术界对情绪智力的观点。
第二种观点的代表性人物是戈尔曼，他在《情绪智力》一书中对情绪智力的定义是心理学中最通俗一种解释，他概括了桑代克、加德纳和萨洛维等人的社会智力、内省智力、人际关系智力和情绪调控能力，在此基础上提出了一个由以下五个方面构成的情绪智力。
? 自我觉察能力，即能够知觉、了解和审视自己的情绪体验；
? 情绪管理能力，即能够调控自己的情绪，使之适时、适度地表现出来；
? 自我激励能力，即能够调动自己的情绪，使情绪专注的能力；
? 移情的能力（又称同理心），即能够发现、辨别和理解他人情绪的能力；
? 人际关系能力，即能够调控他人情绪的能力。
后来他又进一步把情绪智力精炼成四大要素，即自我意识、自我管理、社会意识和人际关系管理。
戈尔曼所定义的情绪智力的内容范围要比萨洛维的定义宽泛了许多，既有情绪管理的能力，又有人格的特征。而这些都能左右人生的方向，具有与智商同样重要的地位，所以有了情商的说法。这种理论在社会各界引起的反响不小，因为它更多地关注行为层面，对人们在社会生活、职场、社交等领域中取得成功具有较高的指导作用。这是一种市场派的观点。
第三种观点的代表人物是以色列心理学家鲁文?巴昂（R.Bar-On），他也是最早研究情绪智力的学者之一，他的博士论文就是关于情绪智力的研究。早在1988年，他就提出：情绪智力就是一系列影响个体所有有效应对环境要求的情绪和社会能力。他的情绪智力包罗万象，包含了五个方面15种能力，即个人方面的情绪能力（情绪的自我觉知、高度自信、自尊、自我实现、独立），人际方面的情绪能力（人际关系、社会责任感、共感能力），适应性（问题解决、实际、灵活性），压力管理（压力耐受、冲动控制）和一般情绪（快乐、乐观）。这些能力都源自他对幸福的研究。情商的概念也是巴昂最早于1988年提出的。
