父母如果继续坚持这种功利性极强的教育，对于孩子的负面影响是显而易见的，这可能会抹杀孩子快乐的天性和独立的人格，还会对孩子的心理发展产生不良影响，严重的会逼孩子走上绝路。这绝不是危言耸听，现实的例子在我们身边不胜枚举。许多父母因为自己未能实现理想和遗憾，便希望下一代能够替自己圆梦，这像极了下面这则寓言中描述的状况：
鸭妈妈平时总是对鸭宝宝说：“当年，妈妈多次努力未能冲上云霄，那真是今生最大的遗憾。现在，儿子你要努力替我完成这个心愿啊，你一定要在天空中翱翔，像天鹅一样飞呀飞……”
“可是，妈妈，我听鹦鹉老师说，我们鸭子是不会飞的！”鸭宝宝反驳道。
“话虽如此，但是儿子你可不能这么轻易就打退堂鼓呀！你要记住，你的目标是蓝天，而不是成天在河里游来游去。只要你敢想敢做，努力尝试，就一定可以成功的！”接下来，鸭宝宝每天在鸭妈妈的指导下，不断地助跑、挥翅、腾空，结果总是以跌得鼻青脸肿、伤痕累累而告终。最后鸭宝宝痛哭地哀求说：“妈妈，我实在是飞不起来，你就不要再让我飞了！”鸭妈妈的心软了下来，但还是不免责怪鸭宝宝：“你这孩子真是太让我失望了，这么一点小事都做不了，怎么就不能给妈妈争一口气呢？”
可以想象，这件事会给鸭宝宝的心理带来怎样的阴影，也许它以后做任何事都会变得极不自信，甚至自卑。“让鸭子学飞翔”这种看似荒谬的做法，在现实家庭中其实屡见不鲜。有些做父母的，总是将无法实现的理想强加在孩子身上，结果只能苦了孩子。父母不要将自己的意愿捆绑在孩子身上，孩子的人生理应只属于他自己，身为父母要的只是理性的引导，而无权强迫或者干涉其成长。正如西方一句名谚所说：你可以把马领到河边，却无法强迫马饮水。
现在的孩子多是独生子女，一旦父母对孩子的未来抱定“只许成功，不准失败”的心态，并在孩子身上投下高额的“赌注”，恐怕会酿成孩子“不成功，便成仁”的悲剧。所以，做父母的在对孩子的期望层面，要尽力纠正两点错误观念：
（1）将未完成的理想强加给孩子。每对父母都有人生理想，但是幸运的圆梦者终究还是少数，这一结果其实很正常。但是出于一种补偿心态，父母会在潜意识里不自觉地将这种理想转嫁给孩子，比如没上过大学的父母希望孩子能够考上大学，没走成艺术之路的父母希望孩子能在艺术领域有所作为。在这一错误观念的支配下，许多父母将孩子作为补偿人生缺憾的工具，强迫孩子去做不喜欢做的事。
对此，日本教育家池田大作先生曾这样说过：“父母可以有自己的理想，但干涉孩子的理想，就等于不承认孩子的人格。青少年不良行为的种子，最初都是从这里发芽的。”其实换位思考（站在孩子的立场去想），父母就不难理解孩子的愤怒了。说白了，父母连自己都做不成的事情，怎么能强迫孩子替你“圆梦”，岂不是荒唐可笑吗？建议有此心态的父母，多去反省自己：如果别人强迫我去做不喜欢的事，我会有何反应呢？
（2）功成名就的父母，往往希望孩子达到或超越自己的成就。成功的父母很容易自以为是地以个人的标准去要求孩子，认为孩子不如自己便是失败。这同样是可怕的谬论，一个人的成功是多种因素共同作用的结果，世界上没有完全相同的两片树叶，即使是双胞胎也存在性格和智力上的差异，更何况是只有血缘关系的两代人呢？父辈能成功，儿辈未必能；反之亦然。我们可以让子女继承父母身上的好品质，但决不能强求孩子与你有同样的人生轨迹和成功事业。
孩子并不是父母生命的简单复制品和延续体，他是一个有崭新思维的生命体。当你赋予孩子生命后，孩子就将作为一个独立的个体存在，父母不应该控制他的未来。正如一句广告词中所说的：“不做第二个谁，只做第一个我！”这恐怕说出了绝大部分孩子的心声。做父母的，只有尊重孩子的个体化差异、培养他们的个性，才会让他们找到未来的成功之路。
