改革开放以来，我几乎每年都回国开会讲学。在祖国几十所大学和研究机构里，我同成千上万的祖国学者和学生交换了有关哲学、心理学和教育学方面的新知和发展。这些年来，我不但用英语讲学，而且也用中文写作，希望祖国的学术界，尤其是心理学界多多同西方接触。承蒙大陆和台湾的几家出版社的支持，我出版了一系列的科普性的文集。
《美国的心理学界》原是：1986年脱稿的。本书介绍了七位当代的美国心理学家及其不同的心理学。此书原为中国大陆的高等院校的学生们而撰写，并且实际上在几所大学里作为讲义而分发过。1991年，台湾商务印书馆印行了单行本，同时他们也同意了此书能在大陆发行简体字的版本。
本书为华裔美籍心理学家李绍昆先生的演讲汇集而成。作者以美国的心理学走向独立、并
逐渐成为世界心理学研究中心为主线，选介了最为重要的八位美国心理学家进行了介绍，既介绍了其生平，也介绍了其学术成就。本书语言生动活泼，可读性很强。
