第一章中药的一般知识
一、中药的性能
中药的性能，是指药物的特性和功能。药物的性能，是我国历代医药家在长期与疾病作斗争的过程中，逐渐积累药物治病的丰富经验，进而加以概括和总结，并以阴阳、脏腑经络等学说为其理论基础，创造并逐步发展的中药学的基本理论，它是整个中医学理论体系中的一个重要组成部分。
（一）性味
性味，包括药物的药性和滋味两个方面的性能。性和味的作用，既有区别，又有联系。
1.性有寒、热、温、凉四种，通称为四性或四气。寒凉和温热是对立的两种药性；寒和凉之间、热和温之间只是程度上的不同，也就是说药性相同，但在程度上有差别，温次于热、凉次于寒。在阴阳属性上，寒凉属阴，温热属阳。
药性的寒、热、温、凉，是从药物作用于人体发生的反应归纳出来的。例如，感受风寒、怕冷发热、流清涕、小便清长、舌苔白，都是寒的症状，这时用紫苏、生姜煎汤饮服后，可以使病人发一些汗，就能消除以上症状，说明紫苏、生姜的药性是温热的。如果生了疔疮、热疖、局部红肿疼痛，甚至小便黄色、舌苔发黄，或有发热，这就是热的症状，这时用金银花、菊花来治疗，可以得到治愈，说明金银花、菊花药性是寒凉的。可见寒凉药，大多具有清热泻火、凉血解毒、育阴潜阳等作用，常用来治疗热证、阳证。温热药，大多具有温里散寒、助阳益火、活血行气、芳香开窍等作用，常用来治疗寒证、阴证。如果在应用中，不明药性，不分阴阳，治疗阳证、热证用热药，阴证、寒证用寒药、药证不符，势必促使病情恶化，产生不良后果。
此外，尚有一些平性药物，即是指药性的寒和热都不甚明显，作用较为平和的药物，但是实质上也有偏寒或偏温的不同，仍属于四性的范围，所以虽然有寒、热、温、凉、平五性，而一般仍称为四性。
