口腔临床流行病学（oral clinical epidenliology）是利用流行病学的原则、机制和方法来解决口腔临床医学中的问题，包括病因、诊断、治疗、预防和预后判断等方面的问题。在口腔医学实践中，口腔临床医师的掌握口腔临床技术以外，还需要熟悉口腔临床流行病学的方法，以便更好地解决临床遇到的新问题。

口腔临床流行病学是流行病学与口腔临床医学相结合的一门学科，是口腔医学领域中用以制定研究计划并解释观察结果的一门方法学。换句话说，就是运用流行病学原理和方法解决口腔临床医学中病因、诊断、治疗、预防和预后判断等问题的一门学科。从流行病学角度来看，它是流行病学原理和方法在口腔临床医学中的应用，是流行病学继传染病领域、慢性病领域之后，在口腔医学领域的延伸，它进一步拓展了流行病学的应用范围。即用宏观研究的方法，探索解决临床问题的答案，最终达到解决个体病例的目的。从口腔临床医学角度来看，它是口腔临床医师在医学实践中所需要掌握的一门方法学，是口腔临床医学的基础。口腔临床医学水平的提高是一个实践、观察、总结的结果，将流行病学的原理和方法应用到口腔临床医学中来，不仅能够大大提高其科学性，还可以大大提高口腔临床医学实践的效率和准确性。

在口腔医学实践中，口腔医师每天会面对许许多多各种各样的病例，如何从纷繁复杂的病案中发现疾病的规律，从而提高临床医疗水平，除掌握r]腔临床技术以外，还需要熟悉口腔临床流行病学的方法。口腔临床流行病学足利用流行病学的原则、机制和方法来解决口腔临床医学中的问题，包括病因、诊断、治疗、预防和预后判断等方面。因此它足口腔医师听必须要学习的一门基础知识。而本书的目的就是要帮助口腔医师提高在临床医疗过程11发现问题、分析问题及科学地解决问题的能力。
