「許多人都在計畫變窮。」富爸爸說。

「什麼？」我感到難以置信。「為什麼這樣說？你怎麼能這樣說呢？」

「我是從他們的話語裡聽出來的。」富爸爸回答，「如果你想看清一個人的過去、現在和將來，就仔細聽聽他所使用的語言吧！」

語言的力量

富爸爸關於「語言的力量」這一課非常有說服力。他問我：「你曾聽人說過『要用錢去賺錢』嗎？」

我起身從冰箱裡取出兩罐飲料回答：「是啊，我經常聽別人這樣說，怎麼啦？」

「因為『只有花錢才能賺錢』這個觀點，是現在流行的最糟糕觀點之一，特別是對那些想得到更多錢的人來說。」富爸爸回答。

我遞給富爸爸一瓶汽水說：「我不太明白，你的意思是不用花錢就能賺到錢嗎？」

「不用」富爸爸搖搖頭，「不需要錢就能賺錢，只需要一些我們都具備的東西，而且可以比錢的成本小。實際上，在許多時候，甚至是免費就可以獲得的。」

這番話使我十分好奇，但是，他並沒有直接告訴我這番話的含義。上完那一次投資課以後，他交代我一項作業，「在我們下次碰面以前，我希望你邀請你爸爸出去吃一頓飯，時間要長一點。在進餐過程中，我希望你特別留意他所使用的習慣語言。聽他講的話，注意他話語裡所傳遞的資訊。」

此時，我已習慣富爸爸交代給我的這些稀奇古怪的作業，這種看起來與我們討論和研究的主題，完全風馬牛不相及的作業。

但富爸爸堅信實踐經驗在先，理論課程在後的教育模式。我打電話請我爸爸在他喜歡的一家餐廳吃飯。

一週後，富爸爸與我又碰面了。「晚餐怎麼樣？」他問。

「很有趣，」我回答，「我非常仔細地聽我爸爸選擇使用的詞語，也揣測他話語中的涵義和言語後面隱藏的思維方式。」

「你以前總是聽到這些相同的話嗎？」富爸爸詢問。

「『你以為錢是長在樹上的嗎？』、『你以為我是用錢做的嗎？』、『富人可不會像我這樣關心別人。』、『錢可不容易賺到。』、『我寧願快樂而不願富有。』」我一一列舉。

「現在你懂我的意思了嗎？我說過你能透過傾聽別人的談話，看清他們的過去、現在和未來。」富爸爸問。

我點頭說：「我還觀察到其它一些細節。」「是什麼？」富爸爸問。

「你有商人和投資者的辭彙，我爸爸有中學教師的辭彙。你經常使用諸如『資本運作率』、『財務槓桿』、『息稅前利潤』、『生產商價格指數』、『利潤』和『現金流』等辭彙，而他掛在嘴邊的詞語是『考試分數』、『補助金』、『語法』、『文學』、『政府撥款』、『長期聘用』等等。」

富爸爸笑著說：「不需要花錢就能賺錢，但要花費語言。富人和窮人的不同之處就在於他們經常使用的辭彙不同。所有想變得富有的人需要做的，就是增加財務辭彙，而對他們來說最好的消息是，語言是免費的。」

二十世紀八○年代，我有相當多的時間在教企業管理和投資。在那段時間裡，我敏銳地洞察人們所使用的辭彙，研究他們的辭彙和他們的財務能力的關係。經過深入研究，我發現在英語中大約有兩百萬個辭彙，普通人掌握的辭彙約五千個。如果人們想增加他們財務的成功機會，他們就應該從增加使用這一領域的辭彙入手。

例如，當我投資供出租的單身公寓小型不動產時，首先，我會增加在該領域的辭彙量。當我轉向投資私人公司時，我的辭彙又不得不增加這方面的內容。因為只有這樣，我在投資這樣的公司時，才會感到適應。

在學校，未來的律師們學習法律辭彙，醫生學習醫學辭彙，教師學習教師使用的辭彙。如果一個人沒有學過投資、金融、會計、公司法、稅務等方面的辭彙，那麼，在他投資運作時就會感到很難適應。

我設計「現金流」教育遊戲的一個目的，就是想讓門外漢熟悉投資辭彙。在我們設計的遊戲中，玩家很快地熟悉有關會計、商業、投資方面的辭彙及其後隱藏的各種關係。透過反覆玩這個遊戲，玩家們會懂得常被錯誤使用的詞語，例如:「資產」和「負債」這些字背後的真正定義。

富爸爸經常說：「不懂得專業詞語的定義，使用錯誤定義的單字，是引起長期財務困境的真正原因。對一個人的財務穩定狀況而言，再也沒有把『負債』稱作『資產』更具破壞性的了。」

富爸爸一直強調財務辭彙定義的重要性，並竭力讓別人學好這些定義。他會說：「mortgage（抵押貸款）這個詞源於法語的一個單詞mourir，法語裡的意思是死亡，因此『抵押貸款』就是『直到死的一種契約』。

難怪富爸爸常說：「不需要花錢就能賺錢。使用富人的辭彙不僅能賺到錢，更重要的是，還能留住錢。」因此，當你讀這本書時，請留意它使用過的不同詞語，千萬記住富人和窮人的根本不同，就是他們日常使用的語言不同，而語言恰恰又是免費的。

你計畫變富還是變窮？

在與富爸爸談過話後，我開始留意別人的談話，我開始察覺到許多人都無意識地「計劃變成窮人」。

如今我常聽到：「我退休的時候，我的收入就會下降。」而事實果真如此。

他們也經常說：「退休後，需求會降低，所以，我只需要較少的收入。」但是，他們通常沒有認識到有些支出的確下降了，可是另外的支出也上升了。

這些支出中，例如：有家庭看護人員費，人們年邁時，如果還能幸運地長命百歲，這筆款項的數額會很大。一般老年人的家庭看護費用是每月五千美元，它比如今許多人的月收入還要高。

也有人說：「我不需要計畫。我從工作中已經得到了養老金和醫療保險。」這種思維方式的問題，就在於投資計畫比單純的投資和錢財複雜得多，所以，人們不願為此付出。
