作者為了揭開咖啡之謎，從咖啡發源地衣索匹亞出發，經阿拉伯、埃及、伊朗、土耳其到歐洲，他走遍四分之三世界，喝了各式各樣咖啡2920公升，走訪1500年前咖啡豆被運往葉門的路線，穿越邊界禁地與危險區域，到衣索匹亞調查咖啡的祭祀儀式，再穿越印度尋找咖啡豆種子來源，還經過薩伊奴隸以前走過的咖啡樹路徑、巴西以前關奴隸的咖啡種植農場。在伊斯坦堡小巷，在維也納、倫敦與巴黎咖啡館，都有他的足跡。

作者簡介

作者介紹史都華．李．艾倫（Stewart Lee Allen）

美國紐約人，自封社會人類學者，專門研究咖啡。
他的經歷多采多姿，曾擔任葡萄園工人、劇場導演、湯屋服務員、掘墓人、龐克作曲人、走私者，當然也是一名作家。為了寫作《咖啡癮史》，他走遍四分之三世界、啜飲2920公升咖啡，從衣索匹亞出發，橫跨亞、歐、美三大洲，目的就是要探究咖啡誕生源頭，以及咖啡如何改變人類文明與歷史。

他的作品刊登在《瓊斯夫人》（Mother Jones）雜誌、《洛杉磯週報》（LA Weekly）、《灣區衛報》（Bay Guardian），另有著作《惡魔花園》（In the Devil''s Garden）（時報出版）。
