由于该软件是一个与艺术联系较为紧密的软件，因此要想掌握此软件并最终进入与珠宝首饰设计相关领域，还需要提高自身的审美观和艺术修养。同时，该软件兼备生产制作首饰模型的功能，就要求用户必须加强对首饰制作工艺的了解。
本书在编写过程中，力求做到信息量大、紧密结合教学实践的特点，注重理论与实践的结合，由浅入深详细介绍了Jewel CAD的功能。适用于高等职业技术类首饰设计专业、高等教育艺术设计专业、首饰设计专业培训等教学需求，并为首饰设计人员提供一本得心应手的参考用书。本书的主要特点如下：
（1）根据初学者学习的特点，讲解实例循序渐进，知识点逐步展开，相对基础较薄弱的读者也可以轻松入门。在内容的编排上，充分考虑了Jewel CAD软件在使用时的操作性问题。
（2）突出教学性，侧重以实例讲解功能和知识要点，配有大量的案例并列出详细的制图步骤，并根据课程需要增加相关的课堂练习题，利于知识的巩固和提高。
（3）根据珠宝首饰的类型，例如吊坠、耳环等，进行分类实例讲解，满足多元化的需求。并增加相关的首饰制作工艺和首饰设计内容的介绍，以拓宽学习者的基础。
本书共分为四个部分，计12章。其中第一部分介绍了Jewel CAD基础知识，包括工作界面的认识与操作理论基础；第二部分为初级实例教程，在功能学习的基础上，制作较为简单的首饰图形；第三部分为中级实例教程，使学习者在具备基础的情况下，制作较为复杂组合的首饰图形；第四部分则为与该软件相关的参考资料，涵盖了首饰制作工艺方面的内容，并通过实例介绍Jewel CAD软件制作首饰设计的技巧。
本书由广州番禺职业技术学院珠宝学院首饰设计教研室的3位青年教师以及1名企业兼职教师共同执笔完成。其中学校教师朱欢执笔第1~4章，7、10、11章，附表1、2；闫黎执笔第8章和第9章；陈巧霞执笔第5、6章和附表3；李江新执笔JewelCAD中级实例教程中7.5、7.6、7.7、8.3、9.3共5个例题以及附表4；初稿完成后由朱欢进行统稿并付梓。
