7 Japanese White Chocolate Treats to Try ASAP

Japan may be better known for its many-flavored Kit Kats, but they also have a wide variety of incredibly tasty white chocolate treats. White chocolate is a popular flavor in Japan, and these seven different products I found did not disappoint. They range from white chocolate sandwich cookies to a delicious yuzu cake. And that's only the beginning!

I'm sure there are many more white chocolate treats out there than those I will list below. But, instead of going on an epic journey across Japan to find these hidden sweets, I've done all the work for you. Here is a list of my favorite finds. (And yes, I ate a lot of white chocolate to make this list!)

SHIROI KOIBITO White Lover White Chocolate Cookies

If you love white chocolate, then you absolutely have to try these Shiroi Koibito White Chocolate Cookies. These cookie sandwiches are a popular souvenir item – and for good reason. The Shiroi Koibito white chocolate cookies are made with langue du chat that are baked to perfection. Every one I tried was exquisitely crisp with picture-perfect golden edges. The crunchy texture of the cookie pairs wonderfully with the rich and smooth white chocolate center. You can tell these cookies are special from the moment you see the paper-wrapped box, and they do not disappoint.

White Chocolate Cookie

This cookie sandwich is similar to the last one, but it definitely has its own personality. The cookie itself is light and crispy with a pretty pattern on top, and the filling has a delicious flavor that’s smooth and creamy. The soft center and crunch of the cookie are a really pleasing combo. I’m pretty sure I could eat a whole box of these – but they’re also great for sharing! One thing I really love about these Japanese sandwich cookies is the look! They are clearly separate pieces stacked together, unlike a filled American cookie, and they really look like little sandwiches. So cute!

Wafer White Chocolate Snack

These treats are sweet and light, making them a perfect after meal treat! These feature a crunchy wafer, covered in white chocolate and filled with white chocolate cream. The wafer has a nice snap, and a unique texture that melts in your mouth. I expected these to taste a lot like the White Heim wafers above, but they were a totally unique experience! I also really appreciated that the white chocolate on the inside and outside were very different – the white chocolate coating is kind of a typical white chocolate, while the filling is soft and creamy. Get ready, once you open the package, you won't be able to stop eating these delicious treats.

White Chocolate Hazelnut Waffle & Cookies

I'm a sucker for white chocolate, and these wafer straws are awesome. Asian countries have products that the western world just doesn't have. These Crown White Heim Cookies are light and crispy wafer straws filled with sweet white chocolate hazelnut cream. Both the white chocolate and hazelnut flavors really come through in these snacks. They’re delicious without being too sweet. Pair that with the satisfying crunch of the cookie, and these Japanese treats are sure to satisfy while adding a sophisticated element to snack time.

I love Japanese packaging, and these cookies are a prime example. It is so neat, straight, and organized. The white chocolate sandwich cookies are individually wrapped and stacked neatly inside a sturdy box (that honestly, I will probably find a reason to repurpose). The first thing you’ll notice when you open the packaging is how good this treat smells! The cookie itself is a soft shortbread with a subtle vanilla-almond flavor. The filling is smooth with a slight tang and a sweetness that’s not overpowering. It’s less sweet than many American cookies, which makes it perfect for enjoying any time.

Dars White Chocolate Confectionary

Dars is a Japanese confectionary bar brand that has a wide range of products, from their signature Dars chocolate bars to the more recent creations like Dars Matcha and Dars White. This white chocolate bar has a smooth, creamy texture, and comes divided into twelve individual pieces that are perfect for sharing. The taste is slightly different from your regular American or European white chocolates, in that it's not too sweet or rich. It’s also softer than many Western chocolates, which made it feel extra decadent. Dars white chocolate is made with real cocoa butter instead of vegetable oils (which is what most white chocolates are made with), so you get the real deal!

Precieux White Chocolate Covered Lemon Cake

I will admit that I saved the best for last. The Precieux White Chocolate Covered Lemon Cake is a refreshing dessert that looks elegant and tastes delicious. These cakes may be the priciest item on my list, but trust me, they are worth it. The lemon cake itself is light, moist and fluffy, while pieces of yuzu and orange zest add a special layer of texture and flavor. All this is covered in a layer of smooth white chocolate, the texture and flavor of which add a perfect contract to the cake. These cakes not only taste amazing, they also look really elegant! Their lemon shape and buttery yellow color make them the perfect treat for entertaining. Serve with a cup of tea or coffee, and I guarantee your guests will be delighted!
